I stared at the note.Just looking at it,made me bristle.I was annoyed at myself for being so confused.A part of me shrieked "RUN,RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!", while the other part charged "And go where? At the orphan age?Was it any different than a prisoner's life?"

It was around 1 a.m at night.Sleep didn't come yet.But that was the least of my concerns.I sat at my bed and stared at the letter at hand.I was rereading the letter, when a distant voice found my keen ears.At first,i thought it was nothing, but then the voices grew louder. It was like hearing a distant shout.

I got out of bed and walked up to the door. The voices become less muffled with every step i took.I turned the doorknob slowly and peeked outside. The voices came from downstairs.I tiptoed towards the the stairway.Once i encountered the staircase, the voices were all clear. There I leaned against a desk, which had one of those intricately designed vases on them, and listened.

"What will we tell the orphan age authority when they come to check?" someone asked.Possibly Mrs.Khan.

"We will tell them to check their bank account" Mr.Khan replied curtly.

"There is a chance they won't be bribed. You know that,Tarun"

"He wasn't a popular kid.Not very loved either. No one will give a damn if he goes missing. From what i've seen, they were glad we took him.Who else would have taken such a grotesque kid if not us?" He laughed bitterly.

"Do you not remember what happened with Anannna? We brought her here thinking,no one will ever look for her.Your stupid little spies confirmed her family had no close relatives.Ye-"

"But we still shipped her off, didn't we?" hollered Mr.Khan."Geez,Milly,you really need to stop overthinking this." He added a moment later, with a tone much softer than the one before.

"Fine. But if those journalists appear at my door once agai-"

"I would take their tongue out like i did with my butler."Mr.Khan said, his voice firmer than steel.

I stood there.By the staircase.Aghaust.I felt my skin prickle at the words.Ananna was right. It was quite a while before i felt my feet again.I was panic-stricken.I cannot be seen here.I can still get out.

I turned to head back towards the bedroom, hastily.Too hastily. As i jerked around,my back hit the vase. And that was when I knew my fate was sealed, just like Ananna's.
