Chapter 1
"Check mate."
The words that spit out of my mouth once a week in the park. You see I go to the park every Thursday afternoon and play with Al. It makes him forget.
He is my next door neighbor, who's wife went missing a year ago. It was a tragic thing.
Someone kidnapped her while she went on her morning walk. She liked admiring the beauty that the earth offers. They took her away, no one knows if she is still alive or dead. No one saw anything. When Al was ready to talk, he said he thought her kidnapping wasn't an accident. Since they never had any suspects and couldn't accuse any one, it is still an open case. He misses her deeply.
"How was school Penny?", asked Al.
"Good. Classes were boring. Friends causing drama at school. Just the norm."
"Well their is nothing wrong with that. Doing the same thing everyday has made my life nicer and simpler. One day everything will get better maybe you will meet someone like I did. "
" I'm only 16, I can't find someone to marry!", I said surprised since he always tells me how young I am.
" I wasn't that much older then you when I met Veronica."
As Al says that, I observe his brown chestnut hair as it blows in the wind. You can tell he's is still young because all his hair is left, with no white strains of hair to be seen. Then his eyes are blue like the sky on a clear day. I have always been jealous of how his hair and his eyes look so perfect together. Not like me though, I'm average brown hair and eyes. I'm even short, not like Al who is built with muscle and is tall. When he talks he is intelligent and reminds me of an old soul that knows everything. He repeatedly amazes me.
While being distracted by Al, he yells "Check mate, I beat you finally after three games!"
