Hollywood! Bright and... shiny? I'm Andrew and my Mother just married my new step-dad, Austin James. He's a famous-ish actor. He's famous enough to get publicity. He's nice I guess. My dad passed away from... the accident. I hate talking about it.
"Oh my god look Andrew! The Hollywood sign!" My mom said pressing her nose against her phone to take a picture.
"Mom it's not like it's in every movie, like ever!" I say in a sarcastic tone. She catches my sarcasm but doesn't say anything. I smirk. My step-dad ordered me and my mom a limo to drive us to our new house from the airport. We're moving from Florida so across the country. So this has to work, so I better not fuck this one up like I did the last one. When we arrive at the house, I'm amazed to see a giant house with a fountain in the front and a privacy hedge across the entire yard. It's incredible. I'm shocked to see Austin waiting for us on the porch.
"Janet! I'm so happy to see you!" Austin says. My mom and step-dad never got a chance to go on a honeymoon because of me. I always get in the way. I mean I'm 16 so I should be trusted but... it's what ever. "The front door is original!" Austin says sounding proud for some reason. I roll my eyes and my mom slaps my arm. "I'm pretty sure a famous person lived here in the 1940's! Her name was like Diana." My mom gasp in shock!
"THE Diana!?" She says practically yelling. Austin opens the door
"Yeah her. Do you like her movies?" Mom nodded her head in excitement. Austin gave us a quick tour of the house. The last stop was my bedroom.
"There's no furniture right now but we're gonna go shopping tomorrow after school!" He said excitedly. My bedroom was in the front of the house which I was happy for. I walk in and I glance over at my very own bathroom. That's when I see that faucet slowly turn on.
"Is there a plumbing issue here?" I ask. My new step-dad looks at me with a worried look. he says
"No? Why?" I look at him in horror, I turn back to my faucet, it's off. It glimmered in the sunlight like nothing happened. I turn back and smile at Austin
"Just wondering!" I lie.
"Well, I think Andrew would like to be alone for a little bit, check his phone or take a shower!" My mom says eagerly
Well maybe Andrew is right here and you don't have to talk in 3rd person, I think to myself. They walk out and shut the door. I guess I should unpack what I can, and where am I gonna sleep!? I grab my phone expecting a text, but then I remembered that... I have no friends! Austin came into my room a few minutes later,
"Hey, did I show you my office?" He asks. I try to remember him showing me but he never did.
"Umm no, you didn't!" I say in a 'fake' happy tone.
"Oh well, can you not go in there... unless you absolutely need too!" I nod, excited for him to leave. I had to do something, something I've done every day for two years. I grab a small velvet bag out of one of the boxes, And a tall orange candle. I place the candle on the floor and light it. I pull out a gold ring with a red stone in the center on my figure. Andrew, you can stop! Turn over a new leaf maybe? You don't have to do it! I thought to myself. But I kept going anyway. I place the ring on my finger. I'm trying to make contact with my dad to tell him sorry, sorry that I killed him
Later that night
"Are you joking!?" My mom yelled! "A killer on the loose!?"
"It's not a threat!" Austin says calmly. He had the Los Angeles times pulled up on his iPhone 7 plus
He gave us a vague description of the killings. Then the latest victim, Eva Brown. Discovered early in the day.
"Are you trying to worry Andrew?" My mom says in a worried tone
"I wanted to tell you both cause its good to be aware of the surrounding area!" Austin protest. "Nothing will happen to Andrew! There's a certain type of people the killer goes after, Actors and Actresses," Austin then looks over at me, "you're not an actor are you?" I nod my head no but keep quiet. Not talking when I have nothing to say was kinda a habit of mine. "There have been 4 killings, well 5 counting the new one," Austin says.
"What's his name? The killers have nicknames right?" I ask. Austin looks down at his phone and says
"Well he recreates famous movie murder scenes, he goes by the Scream Writer!" He says. I look at my glass of root beer
"Well, I better go get ready for school in the morning!" I say eager to go upstairs
The next day
My alarm blast, the cue to get up and get ready. It was 6:30 AM. It take's me awhile to get ready! When I walk downstairs to leave for school, Austin stops me!
"Andrew wait! I got something for you!" I mentally roll my eyes!
"Yeah?" I say as I grab my new Gucci book bag. My book bag is a caramel canvas material, with a bold red stripe on the bottom.
"It's not much, but I hope you like it!" Austin says handing me a box. I open it to see a 1'500 dollar razor-thin laptop, I gasp but try to hold in my excitement.
"Thanks!" Now I wasn't gonna act like it's the best gift that I've ever gotten. "I should really get going though!" I say wanting to leave the conversation. My mom drives to my new school, RedShore high!
"Now honey are you sure you don't want me to come in with you?" My mom says. Now I'm not trying to ruin any chance of having dignity!
"Mom I got this! Trust me!" I say getting out of the car. I slam the door to the car and walk into the school!
"May I help you?" The saggy old woman stares at me. After a while of talking, she gave me my schedule
My first three periods went by like a blur. A stressful, stressful blur! Then lunchtime. I almost expected to have at least a person take pity on me, and tell me where to sit, and BOOM instant BFFs. But instead, I stood in the middle of the lunch room, probably looking like an idiot!
"Psst!" Someone says I look around "PSST! Florida!" I turn to see a beautiful blonde girl with cat-eyed glasses on, possibly fake, sitting on a sofa. She patted the seat next to her
"You look unapologetically lonely! Sit!" She said. Her voice was like every other popular girl, but she wasn't popular. She wore the girl's school uniform, which is a white collared shirt, a black cardigan, a red and white skirt with black leggings under it. Her hair was pretty long, but not too long,
"Please stop staring! It's kinda creepy!" She said. "Just sit!" So I sat "I'm Elizabeth black!" Then she pointed at the two girls "That's Kelly, and that's Jessica! and your Andrew right? I'm in your art class, 3rd period!" She looks at me "Okay see them?" she pointed at a table next to the window "There the popular kids! alright, over there, Band geeks, Then to the right, Football players, Our team isn't the best! There's the teacher's pet! There's the bad kids, slackers, And lastly... Ugh, those are the dumb kids!" Elizabeth stopped, Letting me take it all in. Then there was a kid sitting alone, face on his laptop, Kinda cute! I look up at Elizabeth
"Who's the cute guy?" I say looking at the boy with a neat side swoop, Focused look on his face, Hipstery glasses
I point at the boy. Elizabeth's smile went away
"Oh! That's Mathew Mason! Watch out!" She says
"Why?"
"Have I ever gave you a reason to doubt me?" She asks. I just sit there. "Ugh alright! Have you heard of the scream writer? Well, Mathew is a little too obsessed with the killer." I nodded. I was kinda fascinated, but I didn't wanna tell Elizabeth
