Drip, drop.
Drip, drop.
Drip, drop.
As the rain fell steadily on this lonely, sleepless night, it was accompanied only by the sound of a single violin, it's notes cutting through the night like a blade through grass.
However, we sometimes pay so much attention to the notes themselves that we forget about the silence, about the space inbetween these notes, for it is here that real music is felt. It is in these moments of absolute silence, however brief they may be, that the deepest feelings are felt , and stir up the heart more than any note could. It is always in the void, the lack there-of, that we find the greatest meaning of anything, and like the space between the notes, Justin's past love was so empty, was so non-existent, that it will pain even the strongest reader.
Despite the rain, the moon was shining brightly, it's lumniniscent glow being the only visible light through Justin's window. It's beam shone onto his violin, filling in its every scratch, its every crack. The loss of paint around the edges, the roughness of the wood, and the many scratches it has collected over its many years of use. And like his Violin, for the first time in years, Justin decided to let the moon shine through him; highlighting his past, and reliving the memories he so deeply buried in his heart. After the rain stops, and the moon goes down under the horizon, he too will let go of the chains that have shackled onto his heart for so long.
Justin paused, lifted his bow, and sighed. Tonight was the night. He knew he would have to face his past eventually, to look at it for what it was worth and decide that it was all behind him now, but he didn't expect it to be so soon.
"I mean, it's only been a few years," he thought to himself. "What if she changes her mind and my mobile suddenly beeps, what if she has her reasons, what if, what if..."
But tonight, under the moonlight, staring at the rain fall outside his window, he knew deep down in his heart that it would never happen. She probably doesn't even know his name, let alone feel anything for him, and yet he didn't feel any sort of resentment towards her. No, he never could; towards anyone but her. There was something about her, that when he first saw her he knew that she was the one for him. People say there is no such thing as love at first sight and that it is based on appearance, but Justin was sure that what he felt at that moment in time was so much deeper than that. He couldn't explain it to himself, let alone anyone else, but it was just this feeling.. this connection....
Justin lowered his bow to play a note, but paused and lifted it and sighed again. If he kept thinking about things like these, he'd never be able to let her go before the night was over. One more time, he thought. One more time reliving every single memory with her, and then he'll let her go. Forever.
