Kyle had never loved anyone as much as he loved Mare, he knew that. He was sure he loved Taylor, and though he did not know the measure of love, he was aware that the intensity of his feelings for his girlfriend could not reach what Mare had been able to make him feel.

Now, looking at the bundle of dyed blond hair lying on his legs as they watched TV, he appreciated her beauty, her presence, her whole being.

And then he thought of Mare York, who was probably having a walk around London, because that was Mare.

"Wasn't today a lovely day?" He asked.

"It was." Said Taylor absentmindedly, not taking her eyes off of the screen.

"What do you think of going to Amsterdam tomorrow?"

"Right, sure."

She really wasn't paying attention to him, but that was no bother. She was being Taylor, and he loved her just the way she was. It was just that sometimes he wished she could be more vivid, more adventurous. He wanted to live doing great things, enjoying life, he wanted to spend his life laughing and smiling, instead of wasting the beautiful days inside.

"Do you feel like going for a walk?" He asked.

"Kyle," she started with an exasperated sigh, "just watch the show."

"I mean it, about Amsterdam."

At this she turned and leaned her head back, raising her eyes at his. "One does not go to another country just like that."

"One could." He grinned cheerfully at her, she did not change her annoyed expression. "Wouldn't it be fun? Going away just because, having a different thing to do."

"And what is it that you think we could do in Amsterdam that we could not do here?"

"Have you been there before?"

She rolled her eyes. "Like a million times."

"So you know how beautiful it is, and how cool it feels to walk under the shadows of the trees, moving around in a gondola."

"That sounds boring to me."

"We could go biking." He added optimistically.

"We could go biking here, but we never do because I'm not ten anymore." With a huff she turned her attention back to the TV, the conversation was over.

He slid his legs from below her head and walked to the kitchen. Taylor was awesome and cool, he thought, though she thought herself too cool for the simple things in life. She liked concerts and parties, leisure and sleep. He liked discovering all of these new things he had never dared experience, he just wished she could also try to have some new experiences that he wanted to show her.

As the glass of water he had served moved to his lips, there was a knock in the door. It was probably Elle, it was about time she arrived and since she always forgot her key, she had to disturb and knock. (Not like there was much to disturb anyway.)

"I'll get that." He said and walked to the door. The door opened and there he saw a body with no head, but with a box on the neck.

"A little help?" He heard her say. The agitated voice of his ex-girlfriend.

He took the box, it was big and heavy and Mare being so small must have had a hard time carrying it through the halls. "Hey, you should have called for help."

She sighed and bent a little, trying to catch her breath, running her hands over her hair to try to fix it a bit. "No, I can do some stuff by myself."
