Hiccup’s P.O.V

I made my way downstairs to find that the main hall was empty. After all that happened yesterday I figured most of the clans would be here rejoicing or having some sort of brawl with one another. But the main hall was empty, other than the long lines of tables and empty chairs in the room. As I passed one of the tables I snatched a half-eaten piece of bread and a large piece of meat for Toothless. With the bread in my mouth and the meat underneath my arm I opened the double doors to reveal Merida holding Wee Dingwall by the collar of his shirt. The boy seemed terrified as Merida shook him violently and yelled at him. “Don’t make me ask again? Where is he?!” She demanded. Wee Dingwall shook in fear as he turned his head towards me. “There! He’s right there!” Wee Dingwall exclaimed as he lifted his hand and pointed to me. Merida looked over and instantly dropped Wee Dingwall as her eyes met mine. He hit the ground and quickly scurried away from the scene. “What was that all about?” I asked. Merida marched over to me and pulled me into a bone crushing hug. “’Merida?” I choked out. She released me and sighed. “That blasted popsicle!” She exclaimed. “Wait? Do you mean Jack?” I inquired. “Yes! Who else?!” Merida shouted as she threw her arms up in frustration. “What did he do?” I asked. Merida buried her face in her hands to compose herself before her anger boiled over. “Earlier he had said that you were being intereogated by the clans, and when I couldn’t find you I paniced.” Merida explained. “Merida…”I trailed as I took her hand in mine. She lifted her head to look at me. “You wanna go for a ride?” I asked. She instantly lit up at the request and all of her anger and fear diminished. I whistled for Toothless as we walked over the bridge by the tree line of the forest. Toothless burst from the forest and tackled the both of us. His eyes were dilated and his playful demeanor was at full blast. “Hiya Bud.” I chuckled. Merida laughed as she sat up and scratched underneath his chin. Toothless purred in response as he leaned into her touch. As she pulled back Toothless turned to me and gave me a big, wet lick across my face. “Toothless you know that doesn’t wash out easily.” I groaned. Merida giggled as she attempted to wipe off my face with her hands. She completely ignored the fact that my face was covered in Toothless’ grimy slobber and gently kissed me. I was surprised of course; I mean what kind of girl would do that? “Stop gawking! Come on let’s go for a ride.” Merida assured as she pushed Toothless off. She of course wasn’t strong enough to move the dragon but Toothless got the message and climbed off of the couple. Merida pulled me up from the ground as I glared at Toothless. “You planned that!” I accused. Toothless bellowed in response as he wiggled his wings. I helped Merida onto the saddle and then I too climbed on. “Alright Bud let’s go.” I stated as I patted his head. Toothless kicked hard off of the ground and shot off into the sky. Merida squealed in delight as the wind blew fast, and hard. She let her arms free and tilted her head back. I glanced over my shoulder to see that the wind had managed to blow all of her curls out of her face. Her face was radiant. There weren’t any scars or freckles like a Viking would have but there was innocence. It hooked me and for some reason I couldn’t look away. All of my life I had this image in my head that I would have a woman much more man than I, but her femininity was breath-taking. “Hiccup?” Merida questioned as she brought her hands down and tilted her head forward. I could instantly feel the heat color my cheeks. “Oh no she caught me staring! Just act cool! Yeah cool, I can do cool.” I thought to myself as I continued to stare. “Is there something on my face? What are you staring at?” Merida asked. “Thor oh mighty, you’re beautiful.” I stated. Merida’s eyes budged slightly as her cheeks reddened. “Uh thanks.” She managed to get out. I turned forward embarrassed but it quickly faded as I felt Merida’s arms wrap around me mid-section. I felt her head rest on my back and her light breath behind my ear. “I am so smooth.” I thought sarcastically to myself. We continued flying for another hour and a half until I found a small creek. “Land over there Toothless.” I instructed. He quickly descended towards the creek….a little too quick. “Bud slow down!” I exclaimed. He bellowed as if he was laughing at my state of panic. We were heading towards the ground too fast and with this speed our landing would be more than dangerous. “Toothless!” I exclaimed as he flung the both of us off of him and into the water. Toothless bellowed and roared again as if he was laughing hysterically but it was short lived as he realized that he couldn’t fly without Hiccup. Quickly Toothless lost his balance in the air and also descended into the creek. When his body met with the water it caused a large wave to wash both Merida and I onto shore.  “That was….”Merida trailed. “Intense?” I inquired. “I was going to say fun but that works too.” Merida chuckled as she gathered her hair to the side and attempted to wring the water out of it. I shook my head from right to left like a dog in attempt to get mine dry but it was useless, I was soaked. I turned to see Toothless running around frantically in the shallow water. “Toothless!” I called. The dragon stopped running and looked at me. “Come here.” I stated sternly. Toothless’ eyes dilated and his ears folded back as he walked over to me. “Why did you do that?” I asked. Toothless glanced over to Merida and tried to give subtle hints. I of course knew exactly what he was trying to do but I couldn’t let Merida know that. “Maybe he just doesn’t like you, anymore.” Merida teased. “Oh is that it Toothless. Well alright then!” I shouted as I ran at him and began pushing on his front. “Vikings and Dragons fighting again!” I shouted as Toothless wore an annoyed look and just stood there as all of my attempts of pushing him over were futile. Merida chuckled as I shouted more remarks about the past between dragons and Vikings. Toothless began to get irritated as I wrapped my arms around his head into a headlock. “Is this all you’ve got?!” I questioned as I loosely hung from his strong neck. Toothless bellowed as he through his body on top of mine to pin me down. “He’s got me! Help me Merida before he eats me!” I called. Merida ran over to us in all seriousness but once she saw Toothless’ eye dilate in playfulness she relaxed. Merida pulled on my arms in attempt to get me out from under Toothless but he would not let this game end. “You’re going to have to leave me! Go Merida!” I shouted dramatically. “No! I can’t! There must be some way to free you from this horrid beast.” Merida joked. “You have so much to live for-.” I started but Merida quickly cut me off with a kiss. I felt Toothless release me as our kiss deepened. When we pulled away from one another I saw Toothless staring at us in amusement. “You know you shouldn’t have your pet dragon do all of the work when trying to get me to kiss you.” Merida joked. “Oh so you think he’s the mastermind huh?” I inquired. “Of course, why else would I be kissing you?” She laughed as she pulled me into another kiss. After that we spent the day lounging by the creek. We talked and talked, as time passed and eventually the sun was beginning to set. “Perhaps we should be heading back?” I offered. “Not yet, I wanna see the moon rise.” Merida stated as she pointed towards the now descending light of the sun. “Alright.” I stated as I sat beside her. “So are you going to tell me why Jack lied or am I going to have to beat it out of you?” Merida teased. “Oh yeah, about that…” I trailed. “I’m sorry about him. He can get-“ I started but Merida finished my sentence for me.  “Annoying!” She exclaimed. “I was going to say out of hand, but that works too.” I chuckled. Merida remained quiet as if it was a silent plea to continue. “Before everything that’s happened, well happened, Jack promised Rapunzel something.” I explained. Merida titled her head to the side curiously. “What did he promise her?” Merida asked as she rested her head on my shoulder. “He promised her to take her to see the lights on her birthday.” I answered. “Whoa, I didn’t think jack was capable of keeping a promise.” Merida joked. “Hey be nice.” I stated as I rested my head on top of hers. “Do you think it’s going alright?” She asked me. “Yep, I bet Jack is wooing her as we speak.” I joked. “Good, she deserves that.” Merida stated honestly. “Yeah she does.” I added. “Do you think she’ll be able to stop Pitch?” Merida asked. “Absolutely, after all she did heal Jack and save me.” I answered. “That’s true, but do you think she is ready?” She asked. “I do, but I feel like she doesn’t think she is. It’s important for her to be confident when we have this final battle.” I explained. “She’ll be scared Hiccup.” Merida added. “I know, but we all will be too. But mostly Pitch will be when we kick his butt.” I joked. Merida chuckled at my joke as she snuggled closer to my side. “When this is all over, I think Rapunzel will be stronger than all of us.” Merida stated with a yawn.
