Chapter 12

Lauren immediately felt Camila's hand stiffen in her own and her posture go rigid. She reached around Camila's shoulders and pulled her into her chest in a protective embrace. Jade and Lauren made intense eye contact while Camila shut her eyes tightly and curled into Lauren's arms.

Miss H seemed unaware of the immediate tension. "Class, we have a new student today, what's your name honey?" the teacher asked so that the students wouldn't suspect that they knew each other outside of class.

"Jade Alto," the blonde spoke as she pushed herself to the center of the classroom.

"I call dibs!" Austin yelled loudly so the entire class could hear. Most of the students laughed, but Jade just gave him a passive smile.

"We're doing a group project this week but it looks like there's an odd number of people," Miss H spoke, contemplating on where to put Jade. As she scanned the room, her eyes landed on two girls in the back corner, "You can work with Lauren and Camila!" the teacher was happy that the girls had already sort of met.

"Sounds great, thank you Miss H," Jade responded with a smirk aimed at Lauren as she made her way over to the duo.

Camila was still tucked into Lauren's chest, trying not to relive the memory of their dinner the previous night.

"Hey Laur, Camila, isn't it great that I decided to enroll in school again? I took last year off because of the accident," she looked at Lauren with a grin, "but I figured that it was time for me to come back. Who knew we'd end up in the same class?"

Lauren wasn't sure what had happened to Jade. She was normally such a caring and genuine person, that was something Lauren had always loved about her, but the person before her now was just cold hearted. Maybe the accident was to blame for this change in demeanour. Maybe it was all Lauren's fault.

Camila uncurled herself from Lauren's limbs and looked at Jade with a deep scowl. She wasn't going to let her see how much her comments at dinner had gotten to her. She couldn't. Instead, she turned Lauren's head and placed a bold kiss on her lips before lacing their fingers together and looking back at Jade with a triumphant smile. Jade's darkened eyes and deep frown were evident.

The blue eyed girl quickly shook off her obvious jealousy and transformed her features, trying to take back control of the group. "So I saw that you guys are officially dating now, huh? Haven't you only known each other for less than a week?"

Camila was not about to let Lauren's ex belittle she and Lauren's newfound happiness. "We may not have known each other very long, but I can make her happier than you ever could," she finished by setting her jaw and glaring defensively at the blonde.

Lauren's eyes widened at Camila's boldness. She had to admit, it was really damn hot.

Jade laughed out loud at the small Latina's attempt to make her feel threatened, "Yeah we'll see about that."

Before Camila could respond any further, the bell rang and Jade was gone as fast as her chair could take her. Lauren let out a breath, angry that Jade had somehow managed to find her way into the school but immensely happy that she had Camila and that the brunette seemed eager to hold onto her.

Camila smiled at Lauren when the room was empty before she frowned, "How did she even manage to enroll so quickly?"

The raven haired girl shrugged her shoulders, she wondered the same thing.

"I helped her," Miss H spoke up from the front of the room, listening in on the girl's conversation. "Jade said that she and Lauren were close before.." she paused not sure how to talk about the accident. "...everything happened and that she wanted to go back to school so I talked to the principal two days ago and helped her get everything sorted out." Miss H was happy with herself for helping the younger girl.
