I’m so excited! There’s so many people here! Right now I’m shut up in Melody’s room, but I’m tall enough I can rest on the windowsill and see the front yard. There are so many cars outside, and cars mean people! Melody’s mom, Ashley, made her put me in her room so I can’t even go and see them!
My name’s Lexi, Lexi Anne Morey to be exact. I’m two years old and Melody’s fifteen. I know that because we just had her birthday party a couple weeks ago. I remember because all of her friends came over and there were so many people feeding and playing games with me. It was fantastic! Although not as good as the piece of cake Melody gave me. I think it was ice cream cake. It was good, but I think they regretted giving it to me. It made me very hyper and I accidentally chewed through one of Melody’s presents.
Oops, I’m getting off track. I do that a lot. I jump off the window and go over to the door. I jump up and reach as high as I can go and start making noise. Noise works sometimes to get attention. I wait for what seems like hours but no one come so I jump down, walk over to Melody’s bed, and lay on it facing the door.
I sigh and put my head on the bed and wish that Melody would come up. I've lived with Melody my whole life, besides the six weeks I was a puppy and lived with my mom and dad. I don’t remember them well but I know my mom is an American Bulldog and my dad is a Boxer/Mastiff mix. Melody’s Mom, Ashley, and Dad, Rory, live here too. There’s also Andrew, Melody’s big brother but I’m still not totally sure if he lives here or not. He has his own room and sleeps here a couple nights a week but a lot of times he’s gone for days at a time. That worries Ashley a lot. I know because she walks around the house like I do when I've forgotten where I buried a bone until he’s home. I know I get worried when I can’t find my bone, so she must be worried about Andrew.
My eyes start drooping and I’m just about to fall asleep when I hear someone coming up the stairs. I lift my head up and wait to see if they pass by. When they don’t I stand up on the bed and my tail starts up again. I swear sometimes that thing has a mind of it’s own. The door starts opening and I start barking and whining with excitement.
“Hi Lexi girl.” Melody says and she shuts the door. At the sound of her voice I can’t contain myself anymore and I launch off the bed and jump up, putting my front paws on her shoulder. She’s already braced herself so she doesn't even tumble back. “Get down Lexi!” She says laughing. I jump down and run circles around her, my tail wagging a mile a minute. I’m not totally sure what that means but Ashley says that a lot. “I really didn't need a shower though, I had one before everyone came.” She says wiping off her face. Oops, I didn't even know I had been licking her. I think my tongue has a mind of it’s own just like my tail.
I walk to the door and sniff the crack between the door and the floor and whine. I can smell food and people down there! I look up at Melody and whine again. “I know, I know, everyone’s here. Grandma and Grandpa Morey just showed up, Grandma and Grandpa Smith have been here for a couple days, but you knew that. Andrew’s here too, surprisingly, but that’s just because there are presents and Mom said he could bring his girlfriend. All we’re waiting for now is Lilly, her husband, and the baby.”
Lilly is Melody’s big sister. She doesn't live with us, she has her own house with her husband, Mike. I went to their house once but Lilly doesn't like me very much so when we went there she made me stay outside the whole time. I was bored at first but then I passed the time by digging some holes. One was so big I could lie down in it, and I’m not very small either. I’m as tall as Rory standing on my hind legs. Clara was so mad her voice was squeaking. Not just her normal shriek, she was squeaking! Amy and Rory made us leave before I could even finish the new hole I had started digging.
“Hang on Lexi, I’ll go ask Mom if you can come down stairs.” I move away from the door and she slides out. About an eternity later she comes back upstairs. “Okay, you can come down, but you have to be very good!” I bark and wag my tail in agreement and she opens the door.
