Benny woke up in his bed. He groaned. There was a washcloth on his head. He looked around. Must've blacked out... He assumed. He heard people talking outside- it sounded like Memby. He strained to hear her.
"And you're sure he's alright? I'm telling you- he looked better that morning! His fever lightened up and he ate a full meal." He heard her say. She sounded panicked. "Yes, he's fine. He just overworked himself is all. All he needs to do is rest to regain his strength. Take baby steps. That's the good part. Bad part is his digestion." He heard a man say. "Oh, what's wrong with him, Dr. Possom?" She asked.
"I'm afraid that his stomach is severely damaged. Whatever whomever gave him, it wasn't good. We are gonna watch him closely. Here, give him these. It'll help with his eating. He can't have full meals." He heard Possum say.
"And his amnesia...?"
"I could see how he wouldn't remember. But something tells me he won't even want to remember. If he does, he won't say. I don't think you should worry about it. He'll be fine. I'll visit him weekly."
"Thank you, doctor."
"Bu by Mister Possum, hava nice day!" He heard Theysha yell.
"See ya." He heard someone mutter.
He heard footsteps go down the hall. Then, he saw someone come in- it was Daveed.
Daveed stood at the doorway looking at him for a second. "Oh... you're awake. Sure took ya long enough." He said. His voice was rough. Benny wasn't happy to see dark bags under Daveed's eyes. "What da you men?" Benny asked. "Benny, you's been out cold for a week and a half. Melody found ya throwin up in a trash bin then ya just kinda... went limp." He went over and put a container full of tiny round tablets on the side table by his bed. "Heh, sure shook Melody." He sighed.
Benny tried to ignore the tiredness in Daveed's voice. "Uh, whas hat?" He pointed to the tablets. "Pills." Daveed answered.
"What do I do..?" Benny said, feeling himself grow weary.
"S'posed to swallow them wit water- which ya don't got. I'll get ya some." He said. He started to walk away.
"Wait!" Benny ordered. Daveed paused. "U-uhm, coul I come wid?" He asked.
"No can do, bud, gotta rest. Doc Possom's orders." Benny nodded. He sighed. "K."
Daveed smiled. "Cheer up. You's will get better. I promises that."
Benny nodded and tried to smiled. He never knew if he did it right.

He inwardly groaned. There's nothing to do. I'm gonna die in this bed. I'm gonna die of sickness, if boredom doesn't catch me first. He thought miserably.
Daveed and Memby have come to see him most of the time. He enjoyed their company. Daveed came in and gave him books to read. Memby came to check up on him and ask if he needed everything. Most surprising is when Melody comes in to see him. At first she was shaken up, then she suddenly became really nice. She always apologized about how she behaved with Malachi. He thought she was nice. He always noticed deep scars and burn marks on her arms, chest, legs, and neck. And her glazed eye always made him wonder what happened to her. He dared not to ask.
He noticed how all the indentured creatures had scars. But they were all just scars- nothing new. Daveed had rub and burn marks around his wrists and ankles. Also a brand mark going around his neck. It makes Benny shiver every time he thinks of what could have happened to him.
He noticed that even Theysha had scars. She has a long cut going down her arm. Her elbows, knees, and shoulders were all burnt up. She had a strange tattoo on her ankle. It was four symbols in a row, which he guessed was supposed to be words. Maybe in a different language?
Benny shrugged. All he knew was that it couldn't all be from Memby. She was too sweet.
Benny rolled around in his bed trying to get comfortable. There was something itchy on his side. It felt like it'd been there for awhile. Then he remembered. He reached into his side and pulled out a yellow note. "Huh." He whispered. He uncrumpled it and read it. 45 right, 5 left, 1 right, 59 left. It read. He itched his head. I'll give it to Daveed next time I see him. He'll know what it is. Benny decided. He opened the drawer in his side table and put it in there with his books, then closed it.
He looked up at the bed top and sighed.
He heard a gasp. Then a thump. Then screaming. "Daveed? Daveed!" He heard someone scream. He quickly jumped up and stumbled over to the door, slamming it open.
He saw Memby kneeling down next to Daveed, who was unconscious. She was panicking. She looked up at Benny. "H-he's nearly dead. He's barely breathing! Wake up, Daveed, wake up!"
