Chapter 2 – Blackout

Back at the base in Britain, Metal 0-1 was being briefed for a rescue mission.  "Sir, Al-Asad just executed the Russian president Al-Fulani on national television." The captain looked sternly at his right hand man but calmly in response he said "The Americans have plans for Al-Asad. And it's too late to do anything for Al-Fulani, But in less than three hours, code-name Dietz will be executed in Russia." The members of the S.A.S looked puzzled at the Captain.

            "Dietz, Sir?" asked Chris

"Dietz is our informant in the Ultranationalist camp. He supplied the Intel on the cargo ship operation... Dietz' in hell right now. We're gonna walk him out... We take care of our friends. Let's move." Nothing more was said about the mission until they set foot on the ground from the helicopter. Finally they reached Russia, "The Loyalists are expecting us half a click to the north, move out." Chris, the captain's right hand man felt unsure however he asked "Loyalists eh? Is that the good Russians or the bad Russians?"

The captain was unsure of the question as they can be both types, however he tried to make the situation seem funny "Well, they won't shoot us on sight, if that's what you're asking." Running towards the buildings alongside the river to avoid being spotted by the bad Russians "yeah, well that's good enough for me sir." A Russian without any acknowledgement that three people were near the pier to which he was standing on, he pulled out a cigar and sparked his lighter, as he went to exhale to fumes, Me, Captain James and his right hand man Chris, put a shot at his head, "Tango down." Whispered Chris.

Further up the river were two more houses, both contained enemies, "good work. There should be a few more guard posts up ahead. Yuri and his men will be waiting for us in a field to the northwest." Explained Captain James the three soldiers passed under a bridge getting closer and closer to the rally point. A light flickered, a smell filled the air, a burning small, and someone was close... "Two buildings ahead. Tristan, plant claymores in front of the door, and then get their attention."

As quiet as he possibly could I placed two claymores at both building entrances, then pulled a pin off one of my flash grenades and threw it in the middle of the street. A loud bang and a bright flash emitted from the small cylinder instantly the guards turned round and ran outside to inspect the scene. 'Click, Click' two feint clicks came from the claymores then suddenly they exploded taking the lives of the two soldiers that tripped them.

Moving further up to the field and through a broken house they reached a door that lead to the field where they would rendezvous with Yuri. James slowly opened the door to an empty field but still moved forward... "Chris, Smell that?"

"Yeah. Yuri." replied Chris.

From the shadows Yuri walked out holding his hands above his head holding his assault rifle in the air to signal don't shoot. Instantly within minutes he said "Welcome to the new Russia Captain James." His hand waving as if he was taunting someone, then figures appeared from the ground, it was Yuri's men.

"What's the target Yuri? We've got an informant to recover." Anxious to get this mission done it only seemed to get slower but Yuri explain what they needed the S.A.S for "The Ultranationalists have BM21s on the other side of that hill. Their rockets have killed hundreds of civilians in the valley below." Before James could say anything else everyone started to run up the hill, James was only able to catch Yuri by his shoulder before he set off "Not so fast, Remember Beirut? You're with us." James added in.

"Hmm... I guess I owe you one."

"Bloody right you do." Chris added in before they all set off up the hill to provide assistance for Yuri's men, when they reached the top Yuri explained that he needed the help "This way, There's a good spot where your sniper can cover my men." Yuri said quietly, a broken fence that looked like it could collapse any minute, "Tristan, over hear, Sniper team in position. Chris, cover the left flank."
