Chapter 11: Newcomer

I stayed in the kitchen, preparing some tea while Rin and Mr. Terashima were having a conversation in the living room. I stayed quiet while they would have their conversation and laughs. How did Rin know a yakuza boss out of all people? But then again, wasn't Rin still training to be a cop? There were some things I still didn't know what Rin does in life. I said it many times before, we started this relationship out of nowhere without even thinking twice about it. I took out two teacups, grabbing a tray nearby and placed the cups and teapot on top of it. I headed out with it and quietly comes towards them placing it on the table and poured the tea like some geisha serving drunk customers or samurai's. But this was an obvious different situation. Once I got up, I held the tray against my chest and Mr. Terashima looked at me right away.

"You look a lot like your mother, Aya."

I didn't say a word and just nodded. How can you just instantly tell me that when I don't even remember you. Rin patted the seat right next to him and I followed his orders and sat near him. I wasn't sure if sitting right next to him was a right choice at the moment, since they were chatting with each other. I slowly held onto Rin's hand and I noticed Rin giving me a look. He held my hand back. I'm guessing her read my sign, feeling a bit comfortable seeing this man. Mr. Terashima looked at us and just put his hat down on his lap.

"I see, you have taken care of my daughter very well."

"Well, at first she lived with a good friend of mine first and we just got together recently but since she moved here to Tokyo, I'm basically in charge of her well being."

"I see. So, Aya, you don't like with the Nanase family anymore?"

I shook my head and gave that as answer. Mr. Terashima just continue to stare at me. I shouldn't be acting like some child, not being able to answer any question. If I wanted to know about my own parent's I had to ask right. Rin nudged my shoulder for a bit. I started to sigh and then looked straight at Mr. Terashima with courage in my expression.

"If you are really my dad, why did my own parent's just leave me with the Nanase Family? Why couldn't you just take care of me as responsible parents that you should be?"

Mr. Terashima looked away for a bit and then held his hands together.

"The way I live and the way your mother lived wasn't right to be there to watch you grow. I am very good friends with the Nanase family and decided to hand you to them so you wouldn't be around our situations."

I clenched my hand. What kind of father would just leave their daughter out of the blue just because of your situation? At this moment, I didn't want to be around. Rin held a bit of a tight grip on me but then I immediately pushed it out of my way. I bowed to Mr. Terashima.

"Maybe it's best if I got to talk to you at a different time. I can't function with all this stuff popping up out of nowhere. I can't quite understand anything at the moment. So, please excuse me. I will leave you both to continue your conversation."

I backed away quickly and turned around and walked off to the room upstairs. I didn't really go into the room yet but I watched as the two continued to speak to each other for another hour and Mr. Terashima left our place. I sat down on the floor, leaning the back of my head next to the wall and Rin came up halfway, with his hands in his pocket, leaning against the wall as well. We didn't speak to each other for a couple of minutes but then Rin started to speak.

"Hey, there must be a lot more things I don't know about you yet."

"Haven't you said that before, Rin? And plus, I don't even know him. How can you just know my name and then tell me you are my father. I'm not going to believe it."
