My name is Harper Mercier. I am normal. I see my high school as normal. I see everyone else as normal. Everyone is a human but now I'm moving. It's not like that's going to change anything.

My family was moving from Beacon Hills to Mystic Falls. We were moving to get away from 'unexplained deaths', well that's why my mum said we were moving. I knew we were just moving because dad had found a job offering more money again. We had moved all the way from Australia last time and mum had promised no more moves like that again so I understand why she blamed the deaths. I just don't really think our move was researched much I think there's more deaths where we're going. Moving means I'll be leaving my friends but to be honest I hadn't made many. When I arrived there were only tight groups but of course there was, it was only two years till graduation.

I had talked to a few people at school who I would call friends but not that much that we hung out outside of school. There was a guy called Stiles he was nice to me but he had his friends and I didn't intend to barge in but he talked to me outside of school too. He was definitely the closest friend from school. Apart from him outside of school there was this weird guy who lived in the woods his name was Derek. He was a closed book to say the least but we talked. I don't know how it came about but we got pretty close in the one year I had there. Now I'm going on a plane to Virginia. To another small town with a weird thing about death. Not that anyone else seams to notice.

I finished packing last night but my parents weren't done they were doing the last minute checks and it looked like I was being a hassle so that's why I'm now walking around the small town of Beacon Hills.

I'm heading over to the woods to look at the old Hale house for the last time, that story always seamed so ridiculous to me for some reason. A random person just happened to get the people in the house stuck in the basement and then burn the whole house down with no survivors except one. Who was then in a coma for six years but now seems perfectly fine. It just never seemed to add up. Why was this house targeted? It's literally in the middle of no where. The house is so burnt it's totally charred but the front is completely standing it's a weird sight really. But what's even weirder and scarier is the sight of Derek glaring down at the world from the second story window. He really is a weird guy but if this happened to my family while I was out I would probably act the same.

"Hey want some company up there?" I shout up at him as he makes no move to leave or talk to me.

"No one's stopping you." Derek answered or more didn't answer so I do the only possible thing to do I run in the house and up the burnt stairs.

I sit down on the newish mattress next to Derek and look at him.

"Can I help you?" Demanded Derek though I knew that was just him being him.

"My last day today... getting on that plane tonight remember?" We sat there for hours and just passed the time it was nice though. To anyone else it would have looked really weird and like Derek hated me but I knew he didn't. I was going to miss him and I knew somewhere deep down in his heart he would miss me just a little bit.

Now I'm on a plane to a new home that has too many deaths for my liking but I mean it can't be that bad. Only the bad things get talked about, right?

"Come on Harper get your stuff and go inside it doesn't look to bad." Huffed my mum from the side of the car that I was still sat in.

"You didn't research much did you?" I sighed under my breath as I finally climbed out of the car. I hadn't planned to move out of the car but the look on the guy's face across the road didn't seam very welcoming.
