Twilight: A New Story

Chapter 11

We washed Bella and changed her clothes so she was ready when she woke up. She still looked skeletal, but that would change soon enough. The morphine also made her seem too still, when she should have been writhing in pain.

Three days later, she woke up looking better than she ever had before.

We all stood anxiously. We could never know what she would be like when she woke up.

Jensen stood with his arm wrapped around me as we stood by Bella.

Suddenly, her eyes opened and they were the most magnificent red colour you would ever see. She was a vampire.

We decided to leave Edward and Bella to have a moment and Carlisle turned to me.

'You would make a brilliant doctor,' he said.

'Too bad I won't ever get to do it,' I said.

'No... We could say you have some sort of growth defect when we next move...' Emmett said.

'We could also get married, you know,' Jensen said and I saw the shock on Carlisle's face, 'A few years from now. You say we don't look old enough, but we do. Believe me, no one will think we are too young.'

'Married?' Carlisle asked.

'Not now,' I muttered to Jensen.

We heard Edward and Bella leave to go hunting and I turned to Carlisle.

'You're planning on getting married?' Carlisle asked.

'No,' I said, 'But anyway, I'm three hundred years old. Am I not allowed to settle down?'

When they came back, Bella wanted to see Renesmee. We were waiting inside when Bella came through.

'You look amazing, Bella,' said Alice as Bella came through.

She was right. When I last saw her, Bella looked like a skeleton but now she looked like one of the most beautiful women on the planet.

Jensen wrapped his arm around me and we backed away from where Renesmee was.

'Someone's been waiting to meet you,' Carlisle said.

Rose handed Bella the baby and we all smiled in relief. Bella hadn't attacked Renesmee yet, so that was a good sign.

Renesmee had a gift which meant she could share her memories, and she shared her first memory of Bella with her. Bella looked shocked until Edward explained.

'I've only been out for three days?' Bella asked, noticing how old Renesmee looked.

'Her growth rate is unprecedented,' Carlisle said.

'Alright, that's enough for one day,' Jacob stepped forward to take Renesmee away from Bella.

'Jacob, she's doing great,' Edward warned.

'Yeah, but let's not push it,' Jacob told him.

'What's your problem?' Bella asked, shielding Renesmee from Jacob.

'Oh, do tell her Jacob,' Rosalie said.

'This should be good,' Emmett muttered and I held back a grin as Edward took Renesmee away from Bella.

'Bella, look, it's a wolf thing,' Jacob started.

'What's a wolf thing?' Bella asked.

We all backed away slightly and Rose took Renesmee off of Edward.

'Um... You know we have no control over it,' Jacob said quickly, 'We can't choose who it happens with. And it doesn't mean what you think, Bella. I promise.'
