Words hurt. I think they hurt more than the first person who ever spoke one thought, or intended them to. They hurt much more when you know who they are coming from. I mean, when you REALLY know them, and they you. Those are the people who can manipulate the words that they say to you just right. They can bend and twist, and make words fit exactly where it will burn you most. Afterwards, they might try to put ice to that burn with more words. Words that are sweet as sugar and seemingly sincere. The words make excuses, they aren't cold, biting, or snapping as they were before. They say that Winter winds have gone, and Spring is here. "Let's make up," they say. "I didn't mean it!" But you know they did. You know they meant it with their whole being. And just knowing that makes you want to claw through the air to try and scratch out the fact that those words were ever said. It makes you want to forget. And that's why words hurt.
