Conflicted

Intro

Her name is Nemo. Kim Nemo. This is the name she was given at the asylum. Or is it an orphanage? She was never quite sure. Both probably. They called her Nemo because she was no one. She came from nowhere. She was nobody. A no soul as some said.

The only interesting thing about her was a tiny tattoo of black and white koi fish in the shape of yin and yang. It was almost like the fish were alive. I started out as a tiny mark on the bottom of her foot. As she grew it moved. And when she was 15 it was on her forearm. There it decided to stay.

Growing up in the asylum was strange. There were old people that would come in and become friends with her. Then soon after they would die. She was never really sad. She would feel like it was time for them to go and she would find her way to them. Then something incredible would happen. They always sat up. Just the souls. Not the body. And they would turn to Nemo and smile. She would smile back and her koi fish would swim in a circle and her friends soul would be absorbed into the fish.

This happened over and over from the time she was able to walk. And whenever she reached 20 souls he would visit. His name was Yoongi. He was her best friend. He loved how cute she was. He always brought a pretty gift. Usually a stuffed toy. Yoongi would stay for tea with Nemo and her toys. And when tea was done the best thing ever would happen! He would pick Nemo up and hold her in a hug to his chest. They would glow together. And then the sad part would happen. He would leave. She was always sad when he left. But he always promised that even if she wasn't aware, he was protecting her.

The last time he had visited was when she was 10. She had asked him why she was like she was. He told her about the mark. How it worked like a soul catcher. He mentioned how when the soul count reached 20 he got to come and collect them from her.

That was also the year that Yin and Yang (as she named the fish), started communicating with her. Telling her when someone was in trouble or close to death. That was the year she realized that her life's work was to try and stop the death or accidents that he fish told her about. It was also the year she promised to herself and that she would have to never see Yoongi again. That was the year her heart broke.

It has been 15 years. And she was up to 19 souls. Hopefully that's where it would stop.
