King's Cross Station was more crowded than usual, with an abnormally large number of people around Platform 9 3/4. It was in fact the 1st day of September and Hogwarts students made their way across the brick wall separating the muggle world from the wizarding world.

"Hurry up James," a nervous looking woman told her son, "you can't miss the train on your first year!" "I'm going mom." The 11 year old looked at her, slightly annoyed. "The trolley is quite heavy, and I don't want to drop Snow." He looked concerned at the cage carrying his owl as it moved dangerously towards the edge of the trunk. "Oh son, always worrying about the silliest things." His father grinned picking up the cage.

A tall man with a threatening stare approached the train, his wife to his right side holding their youngest son's hand. "Well Sirius, you know very well what we expect of you." The man said bluntly looking at his oldest son. "Do not disappoint us, although it has become quite a habit lately, hasn't it?" The skinny boy looked down at his bony hands before slightly nodding in response and getting on the train. He felt a terrible pain inside when he saw other parents hugging and kissing their children as they boarded the carriages. He never had such a relationship with either of his parents, but the last few moths had been quite worse. At least he has his brother Regulus, but they seemed to grow farther apart as Sirius continued to disappoint their parents. It wasn't that Regulus agreed with them, he just wasn't as rebellious as his older sibling and he didn't have the courage to stand up to his parents.

Sirius was walking down the aisle of the train hoping to find an empty passenger compartment. They all seemed to be full, until he came across one with a single boy sitting inside. He looked quite friendly as he smiled and waved at his parents from the window. He pushed up his glasses,   messed up his black wavy hair, and turned around to find an oddly looking Sirius staring back at him. "I uhh...was wondering if you'd mind me...sitting here?"Sirius asked the boy. "Yeah sure," he smiled again. "I'm James, James Potter." "Sirius," the other boy said in response. "Yeah I'm serious," James grinned looking a bit confused. "No, I mean my name is Sirius. Sirius Black." He wasn't sure whether to laugh or feel offended. "Oh, sorry mate," he laughed as the skinny, pale kid sat across from him, his straight raven hair falling on his face. He pushed it behind his ear and quickly looked out the window, but his parents were gone, and to be honest, as much as it did hurt him, he wasn't expecting otherwise.

They heard a loud bump outside the compartment door and saw two boys, with a significant height difference, tripping awkwardly over their trunks. They couldn't help but laugh at the poor  boys. James got up and helped them up. "Thanks mate." The two boys thanked him in unison. "Would you two like to come sit with us?" James invited them in. The taller boy nodded, and the shorter one just went along with it. They sat down and introduced themselves. "I'm Remus Lupin," the tall boy said brushing his sandy brown hair out of his face, so that his hazel green eyes met the other boys's. "I'm James." "I'm Sirius." They all looked at the short chubby boy waiting for him to finally speak. "Oh, I'm Peter...Peter Pettigrew."

They sat in silence for a minute until trolley lady stoped at their compartment. "Anything from the trolley dears?"She asked. "I'll have some Bertie Bott's...and a chocolate frog.  Actually,  make that four chocolate frogs." James told her as he took out a couple of galleons out of his pocket. She took the money and handed him the candy. James hesitated a bit before handing one chocolate frog to each of the boys sitting with him. Peter took it with a big smile on his face and blurted out a very sincere 'thank you'. Remus hesitated and then happily took the chocolate frog, smiled, and thanked him. Chocolate was after all, his favourite food. Sirius wasn't all that used to kindness, because it was something quite rare in the Black family, so he looked confused at James, who smiled and handed him the treat. "...um...thanks mate," the words finally came out and his lips curled into a smile.

The rest of the trip was very fun for all of them. Sirius had finally relaxed a bit and was talking non-stop with James. Remus had taken out a muggle book and occasionally looked up at the other boys and giggled at their silly jokes. Peter mostly just listened and laughed at all their jokes and comments.

That is how the four boys came to meet and the start of a long and very special friendship began.
