The moment I opened my eyes, I was horrified.

The air was filled with shrieks of agony, fear, and despair. Yet laughs of sadism, mocking, and sick delight underlined the screams.

I was paralyzed with fear, and I don't know how long it took me to crawl out of bed. When I did, I peeked out the window, and I almost threw up.

Everything seemed unreal. The sky was a deep red, almost black, and far in the distance, lightning crashed down. Anything flammable was burning, from cars to trees to even people. Bodies of people, alive or dead, littered the ground, and there were puddles of thick, sticky blood. Smeared in some of that blood was, "THIS IS THE EN," but the last letter was never finished. A man's mangled body lied beside the last words, and by the hole in his stomach and blood on his hands, he was the author.

The worst part was them. They might have been people, but now they were creatures, monsters. A pack of them stalked towards a normal girl, and as she ran away screaming, they chased with glee. They fed off her fear.

Suddenly, my door creaked open, and I looked behind me in terror. There was my mother, but she was one of them, and she stared at me hungrily, oblivious to any connection we once had; but she wasn't my mother anymore, I suppose. "Hello, petty thing," she cackled, before three more creatures appeared behind her.

All of their feet were charred black, and their nails and toenails were replaced with dirty claws. Their legs were also scorched, and gashes were so deep, I could see bone. Their stomachs spilled blood and guts, and the remaining skin was shiney yellow with green and blue bruises. Their arms were leaking pus, and cuts, burns, and bruises painted their skin even further. Their mouths were filled with teeth resembling shards of glass, and blood oozed down their neck.

But their eyes were the worst. They were pure white, they shone through every gross substance on their face, and seemed to have seen the devilish and demonic souls of mankind. Their eyes revealed brutality, deceit, betrayal, and murder; the window to what humanity became.

I screamed. So loud and tortured, it scared myself. I felt my vocal chords shred, and my ears start to bleed. The creatures, once prepared to leap at me, now writhed in agony, uselessly covering their ears. The moment after I could no long sustain my scream, the world was silent. Then the sound started again, and I dropped to the floor. And as the creatures giggled and made their way to me, I wasn't scared; I felt defiant. I was going to die, and I was ready.

That was, until the pain followed.
