Mrs.Dukes office smelt like furniture polish and black coffee, which she drank fifteen times a day (the coffee, not the furniture polish; although that would be an interesting way to die) My headmistress sat behind her desk in a brown leather chair, which she swung side to side using one foot. She wore her red curly hair down around her shoulders, which I thought framed her face very nicely. I had tried telling her this once before but in return she gave me an odd look and told me to go to class. I guess shes not used to receiving compliments from her students, but I really thought she ought to know that it looked nice that way.
"Mortimer, please shut the door and take a seat." She motioned towards the leather chair on the other side of the mahogany desk, across from where she sat. I shut the door, muting the hum of the busy hallways, and reluctantly sat in the identical brown leather chair.
"Mortimer, this is the fourth time this week that I've had to call you into my office for unnecessary behaviour. Would you mind telling me why this is?" She tilted her head downward to look at me over the rim of her glasses.
"Mrs. Duke, I didn't mean to upset anybody. I just thought that Jordan would want to know that her grandad was happy, that's all." I shuffled in my seat, clicking together the heels of my black doc. martens as Mrs. Duke let out a long sigh.
"Mr. Filius, why you feel that you somehow posses the ability to communicate with the deceased is beyond me and, frankly, it doesn't interest me at all. Maybe you're just trying to be quirky or perhaps its just an act to go along with this whole..." She stared me up and down, taking in my black clothes and pale face, ""emo" vibe that you have going on; but if you continue to upset the other students then you could be looking at a very serious suspension. Do I make myself clear?"
"Crystal, Mrs. Duke." I lifted my head as the school bell rang throughout the office, making the head mistress jump in her seat a little bit.
"Well then, off you go." She motioned towards the door.
I jumped out of my seat, grabbing my black backpack; but stopped with my fingers on the door handle.
"Oh, and Mrs.Duke?" I turned to face her as she leaned back in the leather chair, crossing her arms.
"Yes, Mortimer?"
"Your daughter wants you to know that it didn't hurt when the bus hit her. In fact, she didn't feel anything at all."
*****Ok so I know this chapter is super short (actually the other one was too... oops!) But Im pretty sure I would suck at writing long chapters so I decided to shorten them but update more frequently!! I also know it was probably very boring but it was kind of necessary to the story and I kind of wanted to be able to describe Mortimer's appearance just a little bit more! :) see you soon!! x
