The Fantasy Romance Book Club is a seasonal club due to most of Wattpad's users being of school age and not having time for online book clubs except for in the summer.
CLUB STATUS = ON HIATUS. Club will start accepting new members again in May 2018, Assignments will begin June 1st, 2018 and end Agust 31st 2018.
--------
Welcome to the Fantasy Romance Book Club. Not a very original name, I know, I'm sorry.
Speaking of unoriginal names, my name is J, and I will be your humble book club moderator.
This is a book club dedicated to Fantasy Romance, where writers can come together and share feedback with each other and discover new works in our genre of interest.
I hate long complicated rules for book clubs, so I'm going to try and keep this as simple as possible, so it doesn't feel like a nasty chore.
How it works: We have several Books of the Week from our members that regularly rotate, and all members will be assigned to a specific book.
1. Everyone will have 1 week from the date of the posting to read and comment on 3 of the chapters. You have to leave comments on ALL three chapters. New BOTW assignments will be posted every Monday (or Tuesday if I'm running behind schedule).
NOTE: If the BOTW has a prologue, then the prologue will count as a chapter. (So read prologue, plus chapters 1 & 2). In the event that the BOTW's prologue is super short, such as if it's just a paragraph or two, or a poem, or a quick blurb, then you're allowed to skip commenting on the prologue, but you'll have to do chapters 1-3.
2. You must leave three sentences of feedback on each chapter. It can be three sentences all in one comment, three separate comments, or a two sentence comment plus a one sentence comment, however you want to do it. Just leave three sentences of genuine feedback. So after reading 3 chapters, you should have no less than 9 sentences of feedback. Please leave genuine feedback, no single words or smiley faces (unless you've already done your minimum three sentences, then smile it up all you want). Don't just point out typos or small errors. Let the author know what you think of the plot, characters, pacing, world building, etc. Remember, if you scrimp on them, they might scrimp on you!
NOTE: Voting is not required, but if you are enjoying the story, I'm sure showing love is always appreciated.
3. Once you've finished your assignment, tag me in your final comment, so I know you're finished. Then comment on the book club part for the week's assignment and comment "Done" and tag the author of the book.
4. If you fail to complete your assignment, you will receive a strike. If you fail to meet all of the above requirements for completing your assignment (i.e., forgetting tags, not leaving the minimum feedback, not reading at least three chapters etc), you will receive a strike. If you have a strike on your membership you can get the strike removed by going back and completing the assignment/requirement you missed, BUT, if you never make up any assignments/requirements and manage to get three strikes, then you're out of the club - PERMANENTLY!
5. If you need to request a leave of absence, please DM me, and I can give you up to two weeks. Any longer than that and you'll have to leave the club and rejoin whenever you've returned. I'm also flexible with extensions.
NOTE: There will be several BOTWs, and 3-4 members will read and comment per BOTW. Please be patient and eventually, your story will be next. I have an excel spreadsheet to keep track and make sure everyone gets a turn at having their story be BOTW.
WARNING: If you wait until your book becomes BOTW and then make a miraculous disappearance once you get your feedback, you're automatically out of the club and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
In order to encourage people to not abandon their fellow members once their book has been selected, please be aware: You can be BOTW MORE THAN ONCE! Yep, depending on rotation and reader preferences, your book may be selected multiple times. New readers can start at the beginning, and previous members can pick up where they left off. If someone already chose to finish your entire book, I'll assign them to a different BOTW.
How to join:
1. Follow me, so you know when updates for the club are happening, or just to show me some love.
2. Add this club to a public reading list
3. The story (or stories) you wish to enter MUST be Fantasy Romance. The following are acceptable genres and subgenres.
Fantasy Romance (high fantasy or urban fantasy)
Paranormal Romance
Vampire Romance
Werewolf Romance
Stories that are mature rated or LGBT, as long as it's fantasy related and romance, are welcome.
Short stories are also welcome, but please note that if you have less than three chapters of work and get selected for BOTW members are not required to do more than the three sentences per chapter (unless they want to).
Unaccepted Genres/Story Types: Sorry, but no FanFiction (reimagining of fairy tales is okay though). Sorry, we can only accept stories in English.
4. Fill out this form and comment it on this part so that I can add you to the member list.
Story Title: (if you want to enter more than one story in the club you will have to fill out the form for each story)
Story Genre: (high fantasy, paranormal, vampire, etc. )
Complete: Yes/No
Warnings: (Is your story mature rated (sex scenes or adult subject matter), if so, starting at which part? Does your story contain a lot of strong language? Any triggering subject matter? I.e., sketchy consent, abuse, graphic violence, domestic violence, etc. Are any of your characters LGBT?)
Things you will not read: (examples: abuse, extreme violence, sketchy consent, mature rated content, harsh language, LGBT, or if there are any sub-genres you really don't want to read like please no vampires or please no high fantasy, etc.).
NOTE: If you mention you do not want to read mature content, but the BOTW notes that their mature content doesn't happen/start until (for example) Chapter 7, then you will still have to read that book up to that point (at least the first 3-6 chapters should that be your assignment). Once you get up to the mature chapters, should you feel uncomfortable, you will not be required to read them, and I will make sure to no longer assign you to that book from then on out.

Question: But J, Werewolves, Vampires, and Paranormal aren't fantasy, why do they get to be in our club?
Answer: I consider creatures of legends, myths, or that are of a fantastical nature, to be a subgenre of fantasy (and fantasy is a subgenre of science fiction). These subgenres tend to overlap quite a bit and I personally enjoy any romance with a magical non-realistic element to it and I hope to build a club that appreciates the concept of a magical romance as well. If you joined this club JUST for fantasy and have no desire to read anything with werewolves, vampires, or paranormal, just state that you don't want to read those subgenres when you fill out the application and I'll be sure to pair you with books that better suit your personal tastes.
Question: There's romance in my fantasy story, but it's more of a subplot, can I still join?
Answer: Maybe. Private Message me and tell me about it, and I'll make a judgment call.
