Chapter 1
December 23rd 1998
He zipped up my small black dress from behind patted my short black hair and kissed me on the cheek saying "We will catch him I promise Lux ." Will and I have been chasing Crimson Velvet for two years and we were going to catch him tonight. Crimson kidnaps high end people at their banquets and threatens for a ransom. Tonight I was bait and I trusted Will. He was the love of my life and not giving that up....
"Hello honored guests, tonight we will celebrate the opening of our gallery." I hadn't really opened a gallery it was just a cover. I walked into the gallery where all the pictures were and then thud I had been hit I was so disoriented I couldn't scream all I could do was whimper in hopes someone,anyone especially Will would hear. I could feel my back being flung onto his shoulder and carried out to a van. We were driving a go twenty minutes until I regained full consciousness and saw that Will was tailing the car. The van had stopped at a warehouse and The crimson opened up the van doors to me socking him in the nose but that had not stopped him he grabbed my wrist and started walking to the back of the warehouse when Will came running in "PUT HER DOWN NOW and nobody will get hurt."
bang bang bang 3 bullets flew that night 2 from crimsons right into wills stomach and one from Will as he fell into my shoulder which I cannot blame him for because of his lousy shot crimson let me go and started running and I would run to knowing what was about to happen after he killed my partner. I ran to Will " It will be alright I promise you will be okay and we will make a family and smile all the time" I had told him while gasping out tears of desperation " No no it won't be okay I love you and always will just it isnt going to be okay but that is not your fault" Will had told me and I felt nothing but pain and fear. Pain from the bullet in my shoulder and fear that I wont be able to laugh with Will again, lie in bed laughing at each other and pushing each other in the snow. I slowly felt myself losing him and his pulse stopping and in that moment I fell onto my knees laying my head on his dead chest. Then I kissed his ice cold lips and the ambulances had finally showed up but that would not change anything he was dead and crimson soon will be. The day was long and I spent a good two hours getting the bullet yanked out cleaned and bandaged but none of that hurt as bad as losing Will. Me and him had planned a life together. That night I went to the apartment and started cleaning up some of his clothing and his socks stunk but I still would miss the scent of him and when I lifted the socks I saw a small blue velvety box and the moment I opened it there was a ring with engraved letters saying always and forever we will be together...And at that moment I broke I cannot look at myself in the mirror he had died for me. I wish what was carved into that ring wasn't true it would make it so much less difficult to leave this situation alone. That night I didn't sleep for a second because I was afraid if I fell asleep I would see Will sitting there laughing and then leaving me. And the worst part is I knew when I woke up he wouldn't be there and that was a nightmare itself. The next few weeks of work no one talked the work place was silent and so was I.
Chapter 2
2001
"Agent Lux this is your new partner James Bennet." I knew this guy was new to the field and wouldn't last long none of the agents have lasted more than 3 months with me after Will and at this rate people have started bets on my partners survival rate." Hello Agent Lux it is a privilege working with you."
" Agent James don't waste your time sucking up it won't help" the pure shock on his face was priceless most agents that I get are afraid.
" Hi sweety how is work" derick says as he is the closest thing I have found to happiness since Will me and his sister alice are still best friends though somehow.
"Fine thank you don't you have to get back to court soon though?" I asked.
"Yes but I brought you chinese food and the good kind to."
" Thanks but I have to housetrain the newbie I will see you tonight, love you."
" Love you to"
"Who was that?" James had asked dumbfounded. "My boyfriend" I replied quickly. " Lux what an interesting name does it mean anything?" he asked. "Light, something you won't see again if you keep asking idiotic questions."
Ever since that day all I can see when I close my eyes is those bullets and hearing his words slowly being burnt into my mind. I can't sleep, eat and smile like I ever did when me and him were together and none of these children they call agents will even have a chance at replacing that.
Later that day I had received the news on a banquet being held and I had cancelled all plans. I have been chasing that monster down for 3 years and James does not understand the importance of the case. When I was driving home I looked at my dashboard saying stop looking you won't find me so I slammed the brakes and went back to the station and pulled up the cameras. But the person who set it in the car was smart and knew where the cameras were so he hid his face well. Too well almost like he knew exactly where he was going and what he was doing.
I changed my mind about the banquet I couldn't go. How does the crimson velvet know all this where my car was, Where the camera was, he had to have come here before. I could hear james running up to me nervously trying to figure out what's happening
"So what are we doing now do we have and assignment?"
"Yes hurry up you are coming to a party"
"A party?"
" Yes crimson is coming"
" Who is crimson, What party are we going to and Why?"
" He killed my partner and we are finding him."
"Why did he kill your partner?"
"None of your business now get your suit on and hurry up we have to find him"
I forgot to warn derik I wouldn't be home tonight and now a days he worries too much.
Derik seemed surprisingly calm about me leaving. But hey I need to work and he is getting that through his head so that is a plus. When we got to the banquet I pulled james into the bathroom and we both loaded our guns and put in earpieces.
"Put on a ring"
"Why?" James asked confused
"To cover up, we are a married couple and just put on the ring"
we both walked out separately and met at the tables.
" Who are we looking for?"
" The Host because thats who crimson would take."
"Oh ok..." james had trailed off.
I had went and gotten food when I saw the host walking off with a man and I could not see his face. I had started sprinting trying not to draw to much attention. When I got up the stairs to the walk way I tapped the gentlemans shoulder and to see The 87 year old leader of the law office down the street.
"might we help you" the gentleman asked
"No sorry I thought you were someone else" I replied flustered and confused I mean seriously why do I have such paranoia.
Throughout the night nothing had happened everyone was calm until the next morning when all you could hear about was that wealthy old woman gone. And I knew I would get a mouthful for this. 'you were there, whats wrong with you, you didnt even see him you you you.'
James still hadn't showed for work yet he didn't seem like the guy to handle parties so I didn't report him yet. When james had shown up he was in sunglasses and hiding out in his loser desk. He had a foul odor that reminded me of what my house smells like after parties.
" How are you sunshine" I asked in a sarcastic tone and I took a couple seconds for him to realize I was talking to him and he replied with " Shut up" nobody usually talks back so that was a new one and I don't know what got to me but him thinking he was all that pushed me too far so next thing you know I just slapped him and hard too he flopped off his desk due to the force.
