Oli Corona was crying.
Like always.
Of course this was normal. She was the school crybaby, for gods sake.
Tears splashed slightly as they hit the brunette's notebook, head tilted downward to hide her face from the rest of her class. Her shoulder-length hair fell in her face, puffy, grey eyes hidden from view.
"Ms. Corona!" Her professor called. Oli's head snaps up, sniffling as hot tears roll down her freckled cheeks.
"Yes ma'am?" She replied in a questioning tone, her soft voice cracking slightly.
"Solve this problem for me, please." Her professor says, tapping her pointer to the blackboard. Written in white chalk was the problem, 5(-3x - 2) - (x - 3) = -4(4x + 5) + 13. Oli smiles, standing up from her chair and walking confidently up to the blackboard, picking up the chalk.
"Multiply the factors." Oli says, doing so and writing the new equation, -15x - 10 - x + 3 = -16x - 20 +13, in neat handwriting, large enough for everyone in the class to see. "Group the like terms." She writes the newest equation, -16x - 7 = -16x - 7. "And finally, add 16x + 7 on both sides." She writes the answer. "Therefore, the answer is 0=0." She gives a little bow, walking quickly back to her chair, ignoring the astonished stares of her classmates. She looks back down at her notebook page, doodling on it in a bored way. Oli had always been good at math, although she highly preferred science and art.
The bell rings.
"Finally." Oli mutters to herself, gathering her stuff. She stands and slings her backpack over one shoulder. She walks out of the class before anyone else, hoping to avoid the insults and jeers directed at her.
"Crybaby!"
Apparently not.
She held her notebook in front of her, doodling in it as she walks. As she spins her pencil around to erase something, she drops her pencil. A boy picks it up, smirking.
"Do you need this?" He purrs. Oli glares daggers at him, shoving her notebook in her bag. "Yes, I do, thank you for asking." She replies in a calm tone. He looks bewildered for a second, as if he had been expecting her to drop to her knees and start to wail.
Of course, that was not the case.
Oli crosses her arms as the boy holds it above his head. "Come and get it, Weep."
That was a new one.
Oli uncrossed her arms, jumping up and trying to grab her pencil. Each time she tried, he moved it just out of reach. "You're a bastard, yknow that?" Oli hisses. He stops. "Yes, I do know that." He says. Oli jumps up, trying to grab her pencil again. He moves it out of the way. This continues for a while, until finally another boy walks up to them, glaring at the boy with Oli's pencil.
"Give it to her, Kaden." The new boy said.
That bastard's name is Kaden, huh? Oli thought, tapping her finger against her bottom lip.
Kaden shakes his head. "Nope. She has to get it herself."
"Give it to her."
"No."
"I will hurt you."
"You couldn't lay a fi--" Kaden was cut off by the new boy punching him in the crotch, making Oli wince. "I just did." The new boy says. Kaden nods slightly, already doubled over in pain. He drops the pencil. "Here. Take it." He mumbles. Oli nods, crouching and picking up her pencil. She turns to the new boy. "You must be new here." Oli says, holding out her hand. The boy shakes it. "I'm Ollivette Corona. You can call me Oli." She says. "I'm Acer Pranece." He laughs. "My parents are a bit obsessed with technology. You can call me Ace, by the way." Oli nods. "I like it!" She squeaks. "I'm glad. Now, I'm going to assume we're friends?" Ace says, raising an eyebrow. "Yes. We're friends," Oli says, rolling her eyes. "What class do you have next?" "History." Ace says. Oli sighs. "I hate history. But at least we get to go together." She says, skipping off. Ace follows, jogging alongside her.
