I stared out the passenger side window as we drove by a large "welcome to Riverdale" sign. As my eyes quickly scanned over the words I let out a groan "The town with pep. Can't wait" I said sarcastically before leaning my head against the cool glass. The older woman behind the wheel chuckled a little "Come on Rachel, it's a fresh start, things will be great" she ensured me. If only we had known that this would be the the exact opposite.
After a few more more minutes of silence we pulled into the driveway of a small and cramped looking house, yup, great. We spent maybe an hour bringing the boxes inside the shed we would soon call home, once everything was mostly unpacked we took a break. I sat down on the not so comfortable couch and just thought, I
thought about what life was going to be like now, the new school, trying to find a job, maybe making friends. "I just hope this place will be better than home" I whispered out loud while tracing a large faded bruise on my left arm. My mom walked over and put her arm around me gently before kissing my forehead "don't worry honey, I will do anything to keep you safe" she said softly. She walked over to the kitchen and looked out the window "anything" she repeated to herself.
