(A/N: This chapter is kind of me trying to make things up, since there's no real info on this in the show. Just bear with me!)

The first paladins of Team Voltron were a sight to see. They were closely bonded with their lions, almost as if they were the same person. They fought side by side, saving the universe together. In the heat of the battle, you could feel their heroic essence in the air. (Technically space, but whatever)After a long day of training, or an intense battle, you would find these paladins acting normal.
Pok was the culinary artist of the group. He would create all kinds of extraterrestrial delicacies for the paladins to try. There was never a day that these friends tasted something bland, or be bored from eating the same thing. Pok was a caring Balmeran, putting the needs of his friends before his. He valued friendship, and all the components of bonding with his team and other species that they met around the universe.
Yuzeli was Team Voltron's tech guru. With the simple touch of her hand, she could build so many cool gadgets and gizmos. It was like magic, at least, to the rest of the paladins. She spent most of her free time on the ship upgrading lions or working on small projects to help the hours pass by. She was always full of life and laughter. The other paladins towered over her, but this chick could whoop some major butt in training.
Altea's very own King Alfor was the blue paladin. He (unlike Lance) was a very serious man, but a lover at heart. His hearty laugh made his friends smile, and he would give the best bear hugs in the galaxy. His daughter, Princess Allura, was only 150 cycles old at the time (8 years old in Altea), and would often run around the castleship with her laughter booming down the corridors. A younger Coran would often babysit the adventurous girl when the paladins had a battle. Alfor loved Allura so much because she was the striking image of her mother. It was bittersweet for him.
Razalea was a hotheaded disaster when it came to making decisions in a battle, or even when she just couldn't decide if she wanted ham or turkey on her sandwich. Inside, she just longed for a true family that she could depend on. She cherished the moments she had with her fellow paladins. Especially the ones with Alfor...
Zarkon was a different case when it came to values and friendship. Since he was, of course, destined to be emperor of the Galran Empire, he was straightforward and slightly closed off from the other paladins. This started happening more frequently when Razalea and Alfor started hanging out more. He grew tense in social situations, and would often leave dinner early in an attempt to escape the long list of concerning questions from his teammates. Even though he seemed closed off, he had the strongest bond with his lion. A bond that was excruciatingly hard to break when Shiro became the black paladin thousands of years later.
When Alfor and Razalea announced they were courting, Zarkon lost it. He turned his back on his friends and swore vengeance if he ever saw them again. He spent many moons plotting his revenge, and finally claimed his birthright as Emeperor. He ordered all of his forces to prepare for battle, and set course for the castleship.
Zarkon was coming for them
