<Chapter 1>
"Bye Mom."
"Ok. Dakota, be back by 11!"
I closed the front door behind me and headed towards my Nissan. Tonight was supposed to be pretty casual. A couple of my friends and I decided to head to a coffee shop.
I wore an over-sized sweatshirt (from Goodwill of course), leggings, and my Birkenstocks. Casual, yet appealing.
Jack, Simon, Benson, Riley, Caroline, and I all attend the same private school. We have most of our classes together. And lunch is the best period. We usually leave and hit up a nearby food truck or ice cream parlor.
But tonight were going to get together to catch up over coffee.
*ding* *dong*
I open the small coffee shop door to find Simon and Caroline sitting in a booth.
"Where's Jack, Benson, and Riley?"
"Benson had to carpool with Jack since he wrecked his Jeep and Riley is always late. Did you really think she would be here on time," Carolyn smirked.
"Haha you have a good point there. Did you order already?"
"Nah. We figured we should wait." said Simon.
*ding* *dong*
In come Jack and Benson.
"Finally" Simon said under his breath.
"Well I guess the party can start since we're here now!" shouted Jack.
*ding* *dong*
"Now the real party can start," said Riley as she slid into the booth.
After the waitress took our orders, we chatted until our coffee came.
"M83 is perfect," I stated.
"What is that," asked Benson.
"Only the most amazing band in the world," I said beaming.
"Dude no, Bass Nectar is where it's at. Have you heard 'You and Me' featuring W. Darling?"
"Have you heard Midnight City?!? Best saxophone solo in history!", I exclaimed.
We talked about the latest Twitter drama, current music, and random shit.
After almost 2 hours of nothing but talking, we decided to hit the streets.
It was almost 10:00pm and the coffee shop was closing.
I dashed into the street and ran, letting the wind rush through my hair. Benson followed and came up behind me.
"Gotcha." he whispered in my ear.
"You scared he fuck out of me" I laughed.
He grabbed my waist and pulled me back over towards the sidewalk. We walked side by side for a while looking into the shop windows and pointing out all the different things.
"It's getting late," Riley said.
"Yeah we should probably head back," agreed Jack.
"I think Dakota and I will catch up later," Benson said through a wink.
"Alright don't have too much fun," exclaimed Carolyn.
Jack, Riley, Simon, and Carolyn headed back towards there cars parked in front of the coffee shop.
Benson and I walked to the park near the art museum.
As we walked, he put his arm around me and I laughed.
"Benson don't have too much fun" I mocked.
"Oh I will", he said in a sexy voice.
Benson is practically my best friend. He knows everything about me. He knows when I'm on my period, or when I'm just pissed off.
"Dakota, I like you."
"Well duh, you have to like me. We're best friends."
"No, I just. I like you more than that."
"You mean like how Simon and Carolyn like each other?"
"More."
"Oh."
We both sat down in the park bench.
I was trying to process everything.
There we sat. On the bench. I could feel him. And his eyes. Looking me up and down constantly. I knew the leggings were a good choice.
The cool night air, smelling like a good dream waiting to happen.
And then it happened. My dream of golden apples turned into a reality as he grabbed my face. He looked me in the eye, then kissed me. I hesitated, and then kissed him back. Gently tugging at his soft hair. It felt like an eternity, under his swift spell.
He pulled back, and then kissed me more fiercely.
"Ben-s-on."
"Hu-h."
I kissed him in between words.
"I lik-e you to."
I could feel his lips curl into a smile. And then his focus shifted back, slowly biting down on my lips.
We sat there and kissed and kissed and kissed.
Then he stood up and looked down at me.
I looked at him through my lashes as I thought about what to say.
"What do you want to do now?"
"I need a ride home silly."
"Oh" I said surprised. I completely forgot about his car.
We started walking through the park, looking out at the water on our left.
"Do you want a piggy back ride?" he asked, awkwardly breaking the silence.
"Of course!"
I hopped on, hoping he wouldn't say I was too heavy.
He carried me all the way back to the car without losing his breath once.
I unlocked the car and climbed in. He hopped in the passenger side and turned on the radio.
Midnight City by M83 was on.
"This is my jam!" I screamed as I turned up the radio.
He grabbed my hand as I pulled away from the stereo and kissed it. Giving me tiny pecks up my arm to my neck. Our eyes met as he reached my face. This time, I took the reins and grabbed his face. Pulling him closer to me. Our lips met, and he instantly kissed back.
Then I pulled away and started the engine, leaving him with a bewildered look on his face.
We rode all the way to his house, sharing kisses over the loud stereo.
When I pulled up into his driveway, he slid out and turned to face the window. I rolled it down and turned off the radio as he leaned in.
"Thank you" he said exasperated.
"Anytime," I said, glancing back at the stereo.
He leaned in and kissed my cheek.
"Bye Dakota."
"Later Benson."
This is how my love life started. All due to a simple cup of Joe. Not really we've been best friends since 4th grade, so this was bound to happen, right?
