After lunchtime, my day was pretty boring. I just followed my classes and made friends. One of these new friends was Sarah. She already was my best friend, we immediately connected. Sarah had blond-brownish hair with green eyes and a golden skin.
Why do all girls here have a perfect skin? I'm so jealous.
Despite the calmness of the afternoon, there was something bothering me. There was this boy, who I caught staring at me several times. He was dressed in black. I could see the hurt in his eyes.
Sarah felt I was becoming uncomfortable. "What's wrong?"
"That boy's staring at me and it's freaking me out! Who is he?" I whispered, too afraid of whether he could hear us or not. My voice was in a rather high pitch from my inner freak-out session.
"That's Brandon. He used to be so happy, now he always looks so sad. He was a bit of a nerd, but now he just sits in class doing nothing. He never shows any interest in anything. Until now. He keeps looking at you."
I turned my head to look at him. Our gazes locked. A little smile formed on his face. Just a little one, which didn't last long. The hurt in his eyes came back. I could see him swallowing away his pain from where I was sitting. I felt absolutely miserable from the pain in his eyes, I could just start crying.
"W-what happened.. to him, I mean?" My voice cracked, tears were already starting to form.
"It happened three and a half years ago. He, his parents and his girlfriend were going on a road trip together. They drove right into a heavy storm." Sarah took a deep breath before she continued. "The storm was becoming heavier and heavier. A massive tree fell right in front of the car. Brandon's dad tried to stop and turn the car, but it was too late. The car hit the tree sideways. His dad and girlfriend were on the side of the car that hit the tree. When the paramedics arrived, they were already dead." Sarah was crying, but she continued telling the story. I was also crying. "He and his mom were severely wounded. She died on their way to the hospital, he was in coma. After five weeks, he woke up." Sarah took a break. Her throat sounded dry, I handed her some water.
"Thanks." She drank some of it and then continued again. "He seemed to be doing well, recovering from the accident. His grandparents have taken care of him ever since he was allowed to leave the hospital. They told him that he had been in an accident and that his parents and girlfriend were recovering somewhere else. He started to see flashes of the accident. His physical state got worse, because he couldn't rest. His grandparents told him what had really happened. He was devastated. At first, he couldn't sleep at night. His body was so exhausted that one night he finally fell asleep. He was asleep for four days. Months later he came back to school. He wasn't the same anymore. He only dresses in black, he always looks hurt and he never talks to anyone."
"H-how do you know all this when he doesn't talk to people?" There was barely any sound coming from my mouth due to the crying.
"My parents knew his parents. We visited them all the time. Brandon and I used to be really good friends. When my parents heard about the accident, we went straight to Brandon's grandparents. We promised them to go there every week. They told us everything. I'm one of the few people in school who know the whole story."
While Sarah and I were crying, I glanced to where Brandon was sitting. He looked at me. He looked worried. I give him a don't-worry-about-me smile. It helped. In fact, I think I saw a little smile on his face.
The bell rang. I hurried to put my books in my bag, totally forgetting that I was crying. I was the last person to leave class. Brandon was standing outside the room. Our gazes locked again.
"Hey. Are you alright?" He sounded worried.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Oh, by the way, I'm Jordan."
"And I'm Brandon." He said, while wiping away my tears. His touch felt so good. His hands were warm. I smiled at him, he smiled back.
"From what I've heard you never smile."
"You're worth a smile."
I felt so happy and comfortable around him.
"Hey guys! What are you doing?" Clark came towards us, looking so utterly happy. Clark is really nice. He has dark-brown hair and brown eyes. He's wearing a spencer, which looks so good on him.
"Hey Clark!" I gave him a hug. Clark was one of my best friends, even though I had just met him this morning. I had math and he sat next to me, he's my math buddy now. He's just so outgoing and definitely not afraid to flirt. Whenever I'm around him, I feel as if all my worries are gone. I could tell him everything.
"Jordan, I was hoping you'd come with me. I want to get ice cream."
"Yeah. I'd love to!"
"Brandon, do you want to go with us?"
"Sure." He gave me a smile.
I was going to get ice cream with Brandon and Clark, just the thought of ice cream, or just food in general, made me happy.
Clark was definitely flirting with Brandon. Though I was smiling, when Clark looked at me he knew he wasn't supposed to flirt with Brandon. Because right now, I wanted Brandon so badly. I wanted to just stop walking and kiss him, so badly.
Believe me, having a gay best friend is awesome. The only thing is that they can flirt with the boys you like. Still, it's awesome.
When we arrived at the ice cream shop, we sat down as Clark excused himself to go to the bathroom. He winked at me. I smiled at him.
I turned to face Brandon. Brandon was sitting next to me. He was so close to me. I could hear his breathing clearly. Somehow, it sounded really sexy.
Jordan, control yourself.
Our gazes locked.
Oh god I want to kiss him so badly!
We both smiled. I looked in his eyes, then I looked at his lips and then back into his eyes. I bit my lip. His smile grew bigger. He looked down at my lips. His eyes were full of desire. He looked back into my eyes. I bit my lip again. I saw he was doing the same. He shifted closer. I took a big breath, then let it go, letting him hear my desire. He smiled as he leaned in.
