"Mom," I squeaked as a white fox walked past. her tail tip pink.

"What is it sweetheart?" She asked.

"Where are you going?" I asked her. Her golden eyes where filled with sorrow. "You're going to get more medicine aren't you?"

"Yes," She answered. "Your father is getting better, but I'm not sure if he'll be better by winter." She sighed. "Bluepaw, would you be a dear and help me make dinner?"

"Sure. I'm always happy to help," I replied. I followed her into the kitchen where my sister, Destiny, was working on her homework. We may be home schooled, but we still have homework. I still remember what it was like to go to a public school. I had fun with my best friend Raven. I had other friends too, but they all moved to Spring City because it had shorter winters then River Valley. Raven stayed though, she liked the long winters, and at least the summer isn't as hot as Spring City's. But all good things had to come to a end.

My big sister, Bluetail, got really ill last year, and Dad stayed with her 'til her last breath. The symptoms were kind of like a cold, at first, but she would sometimes cough up blood. That's how we found out that Dad had caught Bluetail's sickness.

Destiny and I were playing Sorry with him just last month, and he started to cough, like a lot. Destiny went to go find mom. I stayed because I was to lazy and scared to get up. When Destiny returned with Mom blood was coming out of Dad's mouth. Mom took him to the hospital, where he stayed for a week.

One day My brothers, Plushtrap and Nightwhisker went to school. My Mom worked as their school counselor. Destiny and I were only in middle school while they were in high school. When Destiny and I returned home Mom was crying in her room. Destiny started to watch the news, and it said two high school boys where killed. We noticed that Nightwhisker and Plushtrap should be home by now, but they were dead. From that day forward my sister and I were home schooled.

"Destiny, Bluepaw," Mom started to speak. "I want you two to do a few things for me, okay?" Destiny and I both looked at each other then nodded. "Good, Destiny I want you to look after your father, and Bluepaw go out in to the woods and make sure that the fence is doing it's job. And after that you can bake some brownies." She ordered, then left.

That was the last time I saw my mother. She never came back. Nor did she say goodbye. Destiny and I wondered what happened to her. Destiny said that she went to look for better medicine. I said that she committed suicide for losing most of her once happy family, and she was about to lose another. But when the days seem like nights, and the nights seem like days, lost in the night is what they'd say.
