Chapter Three

Xander and Azura approached Anne's house at about 6 p.m. They would have been there earlier, if it wasn't for Azura asking Xander to stop flying when they were at the end of the forest.

Xander said he knew exactly how to remain invisible, but Azura didn't allow him to. She insisted on them walking. She also asked him to go home from there, but he said he had to see her get home safely. Apparently Chaste Town was no place for a girl to walk around after sunset, even though it was still only evening time.

"Bye," he said to her.

"Bye," she responded, turning around and going up to the porch.

Azura rung the doorbell and waited for someone to open the door. Her eyes wandered around the neighbourhood. The house accross the street seemed to be the only one that wasn't inhabited. It seemed very old. The green paint on it was almost completely scraped off, and the porch was practically non-existent. She imagined that something horrid had happened there, though her conscience told her that it was probably under construction. Due to the lack of construction workers and essential machinery, though, she had to let the house remain a mystery... Until she could ask Anne about it, of course.

Right then, the door opened and she turned toward a worried Anne. "Geez, Azura, thank God you're okay. I am so sorry, I completely forgot to mention that you should never be outside after sunset, not in this place at least."

"I know Anne, my... Friend told me," said Azura, hesitant about what to call Xander.

Anne smiled and stepped aside to let Azura in. "I'm glad you're already making friends," she said, closing the door behind Azura, who smiled in response, unsure of what to say.

"Well, dinner's almost ready, so, once you've freshened up, we can eat." Anne said from the bottom of the staircase that Azura was ascending on the way to her room.

"What about John?" Asked Azura, stopping midway.

"Oh, he's going out with his friends tonight. He'll be late." Anne had broken eye contact with Azura while saying that. But, as much as she tried to hide it, her melancholic expression was obvious.

Azura thought of asking her about it, but then she remembered her age and her relationship with Anne. She was sure that Anne would be uncomfortable talking about her husband to her missing sister's daughter. So she just continued her short journey to the guest room, and shut the door behind her. She had too many problems already.

The day had been so unbelievable, she might as well have called it a dream.

'I know right?' said Xander in her head. It came as a slight shock to her that he was still there. She thought that them not being close to each other would make him get out of her head. If that wasn't the case, then what was? How could they go back to normal? Was this really just a dream?

'I'm only half a mile from your house.' he thought, making her wonder how. Had their bond changed? It seemed like it had. Earlier, she could hear everything he thought, but now it was more like he was thinking to her, like talking to her. She was sure that he was thinking more than that one thought a minute.

'I can't hear all of your thoughts now. Only the ones that have to do with me. So I guess it has changed,' he thought to her.

"That's good," she said aloud, sighing in relief. She couldn't help but think that if he was able to hear all of her thoughts... Bad, bad things would happen. She shivered at the idea, refusing to let the entire thought form in her head.

'Yeah, it is. Do you go to school?' he asked her.

'Yes I do.' she replied.

'Then meet me outside it tomorrow? I have someone I'd like you to meet.'
