Elise cleared her throat, "Can I have everyone's attention please?" She said loudly.
Everyone looked at us.
"Vic and I have an announcement we'd like to make." She said timidly.
"We already know he knocked you up!" Casey called.
Elise rolled her eyes and laughed, "It's not about that. Vic, will you?" She asked.
"I've asked Elise here to marry me, and she's accepted. We're engaged." I said.
Everyone clapped and cheered for us.
Elise, her hands resting on her stomach, took the attack of ecstatic females well.
She smiled, nodded, laughed and acted calmly.
It felt like the PTV fanbase had been released on my poor Elise.
The men however, were all shaking their heads, and trying to talk me out of getting married.
"Once you get married, you start dying a little inside my friend." Todd said.
"It's not going to be that way with me Todd." I assured him.
Mike was standing beside Diana, looking very confused and catatonic, not saying anything, just staring into space.
"What are you naming the baby?" Someone asked.
Elise shrugged, "We don't know yet. We'll figure it out when we find out what we're having." She said.
The crowd died down, and Elise came and sat down, "Phew, I'm already exhausted." She whispered, sipping her orange juice.
"You ready to leave?" I asked.
She shook her head, "No, I'm just tired of being on my feet." She said.
She propped one of her sore feet in my lap, and I rubbed it.
Courtney, who'd for some reason been absent during the announcement marched over, "You're getting married?!" She asked.
Elise's head had been resting against the chair, her eyes closed peacefully.
She looked up at Courtney, "Yes I am." She said.
"When?" Courtney asked.
"We haven't set an exact date yet." Elise said.
Courtney looked at me, "When did you get engaged?" She asked.
"On Christmas." Elise answered.
"Why?" Courtney asked me.
I looked up, "Because I love your sister very much." I answered nervously, like that may have been the wrong answer.
"Are you sure it's not because you knocked her up?" Courtney asked.
Elise glared at her, and then smiled reassuringly at me, "Courtney, I'm the older sister, it's my life, let me live it." Elise said.
"Last time I let you live your life, you got addicted to drugs and damn near died, excuse me for wanting to make sure that doesn't happen again." Courtney snapped.
"You know Vic. He's nothing like that. Times have changed Courtney. If you're not aware of that, then maybe you shouldn't be here." Elise said.
Courtney looked hurt, but retaliated quickly, "Fine, I'll just leave then." then she stomped away.
I stared after her, hoping that either she or Elise would break down and apologize, but moments passed, and Courtney dissappeared into the house, while Elise sat perfectly still in her chair.
