Worst Night Ever

“Worst night ever”

I am currently in college and being in school every day is enough torture for me. Honestly, I hate studying but I have to. Though I say that every day spent on school is the worst, there is this day which I consider as my worst night ever.

It was Thursday and our class is in Recto, farther from my home than in UERM. The sky was dark and the clouds were heavy. In that day, the weather forecast mentioned that there is a tropical storm around Manila but it’s not that strong suspend classes in college so we went on that day.

Same old routine was done until dismissal. As I stepped outside, walking through past the rear gate of the campus, the very dark sky with little showers starts to piss me. I hate going out on rainy days.

As for the usual, I and my friends went to the train station. Unfortunately, the train was out of order. It was on code red possibly because of some technical problems and the weather. Everyone was gathered in the entrance waiting for the train to resume. We started panicking. We waited for at least half an hour but, still, the train was not available. So we all decided to change course.

We walked back to the terminal of jeepneys routing to Cubao but it seems that we were really out of luck because all the jeepneys were full. Some of the desperate ones just decided to tap ride on them. There was no chance we can do that. After that, our group finally decided to split up because we waited for almost an hour already. We went on our separate ways. I went together with Jesan.

We walked briskly to the busy streets going to the main gate of the campus. There, as of what we know, are buses routing directly to our place. We didn’t notice how long we have been walking till I got tired. There was still no bus! Though it was cold that day, I felt super exhausted. I just want to lay down anywhere. My legs were very tired and started to feel like jelly.

We saw some pedicabs. We asked a driver if he knows any way for us to get home. He pointed out a bus terminal where he can take us. We felt relieved for that moment. We asked him how much it will take him to get us to that terminal. He said 100 pesos. We were shocked because he clearly said it was not that far. It is such a price for a pedicab ride but with pure desperation, we grabbed it.

The wind and rain started getting stronger. We started our journey to Lawton, the place of the terminal. We went for the ticket booth and confirmed if there was any bus routing to Taytay that stops there. The lady said yes and I felt the sudden joy in me. We tried to find line for the bus to Taytay but, suspiciously, there was none so we just started our own line. With the purest hope in my heart, we waited for more than one hour. We assumed that the traffic was just heavy given that the place was flooded. I could almost cry that night.

Jes and I called our parents informing them of our situation and getting some tips for other means of transportation. We went out of the terminal having the idea that there are more jeepneys routing to Cubao outside. I am already soaking wet and tired, very, very tired. Unfortunately, again, there was no jeepney! I’m losing hope. I’m not fond of the place so I’m scared to ride other jeepneys because I might get lost.

We decided to walk more on the dark streets and found another terminal. The jeeps will be passing through a train station, different from the first one. We rode it and we will ride the train from there. The traffic was super heavy, the jeepney was rarely moving. And so, we walked again toward the station. As we arrived to the station, it was also out of order! We didn’t have any idea that the two trains were indirectly connected to each other. Everything is just broken. I lifted my spirits because it is already near midnight and I really need to get home. I led on walking. We walked and walked opposite the way of the jeepneys hoping to get the loading station. At last! There’s finally a heaven’s gift jeepney routing to Cubao empty. We ran like children towards it. At that moment, I am finally relieved. It’s time to get home.
