"Keith, there's no way-"
"I know. But what else am I supposed to do? Wait until someone else tells them?"
"My thoughts exactly."
"Connor, there's no way. If they find out before I tell them, I'm sure to be kicked out of the house."
"And if you tell them first?"
"Then I may be kicked out of the house."
Keith Roberts sat on his bed, staring out the window as he listened to his boyfriend on the phone. Connor's voice was hushed as he whispered over his own phone. His parents didn't allow Connor to stay up past eleven. Yet here he was, convincing the love of his life to let the rumors spread to Keith's parents at 11:35.
"Keith, we've gone over this before. Either way you are going to be threatened to leave the house. I've already got it all planned out." Connor cleared his throat as Keith rolled his eyes on the other line. He knew a sound like that meant speech time.
"Once your parents find out you're dating me, you'll have already moved in to my house where you can comfortably stay in my room. And when your parents demand to see you, or, if they do, my parents can have the full ability to say no since it's their house. See? I've thought it all through." Connor sounded pleased with his plans, though Keith as always sounded uneasy.
After seconds of awkward silence, Connor retorts, "I know that silence means you're thinking that out, so I'll have hopes. Trust me Keith, if your parents find out themselves, you won't be in the room. Unless you tell them which I know you won't."
Keith's parents were notorious for being the religious ones on the block, including their hate for gay pride. Of course, Keith hated his parents more than anything. And not just because of their beliefs. They seemed to forget him most of the time whether that included family gatherings or just dinner at night. He was the invisible one, but if his parents knew of his secret, he'd probably be the dead one.
Keith sighs in pity as he rubs his eyes fitfully. "Connor, can we talk about this in the morning? I love you and I'm glad you're helping me, but I've had a rough day already."
It was Connor's turn to be silent for a moment before stating, "Yes, of course. I love you too and will call you tomorrow?"
"Definitely," Keith says, smiling to himself as he ends the call, his smile losing its serenity as he continues to stare out the window.
His day hadn't been bad, yet he still lied to his boyfriend to get out of talking. Why? He loved him dearly but the talk of his own parents gave him a headache. Keith sighs once more before looking at his alarm clock. 11:39. It had seemed like the call had took hours, yet it had only started at 11:26. Yawning, he scratches the back of his neck before laying back in his bed, the fan spinning above him to keep away the summer heat. Tomorrow Connor would call, and Keith would talk to him. He just didn't know what his answer to Connor's plan would be.
