I'm not sure how much longer I can deal with school. Maybe it's my fault, after all I was the one who decided to sneak out instead of do my homework. Here's a lesson to always remember: try to avoid doing your homework early in the morning while eating breakfast. You probably won't have enough time to finish the assignment and it's just not a good idea in the first place. Your teacher is also bound to notice how terrible it is and get disappointed...or at least mine is.
"Whatcha working on?" My mom asked me from across the small round dining table. Her dark hair was stuffed into a messy bun. Her questioning eyes rested on the paper I was writing on.
"Nothing," I answered, still very busy. She shrugged and continued eating her cereal. My mom, Katherine, is the strongest, bravest and smartest person I know. She never lets her guard down, and it amazes me. Sometimes I wish I was more like her. She's very carefree of what I do, but she obviously has her boundaries.
Soon, it was time for me to go to school.
"I can drive you to school today if you'd like," my mom said with a smile in my direction. It was nice of her to offer, but I decided that today I would walk so I declined. The air was fresh and a bit chilly this morning, so I wore my jean jacket. As I walked to school, I thought about Harper and our routine of sneaking out. I thought about all the fun experiences we had together while exploring the city. We'd look for small hidden cafes that always turned out to be ten times better than your average popular cafe. You can find unique street art all over the city, it all depends on where you decide to go. As I pondered the thought, the boy I saw on the platform came to my mind.~~~*
"Have you ever considered joining the track team?" Austin asked me. He was leaning against the beige wall next to my locker.
"Nope, never crossed my mind," I answered honestly. Sadly, I'm not super sporty like he is. "Well," Austin continued. "I have. I might join." I took my jacket off my hook and rolled my eyes. "You join almost every team in the school," I say.
"Is that a bad thing?"
"Im not saying it is. C'mon, let's go."
We started walking towards the exit of the school. Austin is the definition of the word 'jock'. He likes almost every sport, (except hockey because he can't skate, surprisingly enough), that's why he's been on basically every sport team the school has to offer.
He and I decided to get a Döner after school, so that we could talk about homework and just so we could eat. Döner's are probably my favourite street food ever. As we were walking next to the busy road in the city it started raining a bit. Austin looked up at the sky.
"Whoops," he said. "I should have looked at the forecast." From where we were standing I could see my favourite Döner place, it wasn't very far ahead.
"That's okay, we can sit inside the shop. Maybe the rain will have stopped by then," I answered, trying to stay positive.
When we got into the Doner shop, we both ordered our usual and then took our food to a table by one of the the tall windows that illuminated the shop with light.
"Soo," Austin chuckled awkwardly after a few seconds of silence. I smiled, unsure of what to say next. Austin took a bite out of his Döner and looked at me with his dark eyes.
"I heard about Kade the other day," He said with his mouth still full. I cringed a bit inside at the name but tried not to let it show.
"Oh?" Was all I could think of to say.
"Yeah, he's been doing good. Great, actually," Austin continued. "He's basically a God in his new school. He does sports, he's apparently attractive now and is popular."
"If he's attractive and sporty," I say, "Of course he'll be popular." "Your right, but I also heard he's a huge douche now, too." "Popularity does that to people."
"We should go see him sometime. Catch up a bit," Austin takes another bite from his Döner and I take a bite out of mine. As usual, it tastes delicious. "I'd rather not," I mumble.
"Why not?"
Crap, I was hoping he wouldn't hear that.
"Well I mean if he's a douchey popular guy then who would want to meet him?"
"You don't wanna see how attractive he is...?" Austin teases, raising an eyebrow. I pretend to gag. "Please, he can't be that attractive. I'm over him, anyways."
"You liked him?"
"Yeah, in like, fourth grade."
Austin leans forward, he's inches away from my face. "Wasn't there a lot of drama or something? Will you tell me? Please?" He asks while looking directly into my eyes.
"Stop trying to hypnotize me!" I put my left pointer finger on his forehead and push his face away. "And no, I won't tell you. It's history now." "Aww," Austin exaggerates a pout, "you're no fun."
