(Layla's pov)

1 month Later

It was a bitter morning. You could almost taste the chilling air. I bundled myself up in a warm jacket and then pulled some boots over my feet. I grabbed the keys off the kitchen counter, and then left a scribbled message on the fridge for Ashton.

For the past few weeks Luke has been staying in the apartment across from mine. Of course, Jasmine was very unaware of this, and I didn't want her to find out. Between all the things going on, the last thing I needed was to get in the middle of their fight. But I guess it was a little too late for that.

I stopped at his apartment quickly. He let me in. His face was worn, and dark circles were under his eyes. "Have you slept at all?" I questioned.

He walked into the kitchen and I followed behind him, "Maybe a wink, I've got a lot of things on my mind."

"I know, I just came to check on you"

He stared at me for a moment, it had a little hint of a glare. "You know you don't have to do that, Layla. I'm a grown man."

"I know, I know" I sighed, "I just feel like you need some friendly support. Is there anything I can do? Have you decided when your gonna talk to her?"

"I need more time to figure out what I'm going to say." He went over to the fridge and pulled out a jug of milk. I watched as he chugged some down without a glass. I almost cringed, but then realized I had done it a few times myself. One drop of milk was trickling down his chin, falling just below his neck before he wiped it. Then he set the jug down on the counter.

I responded, "I'm going to see her today, in a half hour at the brew, do you want me to say anything to her?"

Immediately he cut in, "NO, if I want to do this, i have to do this myself Layla. Thanks for trying, but I don't need your help right now"

"Okay, enough said" I gave him a warm smile. "I better get going if I want to make it there on time"

"Yeah" Just I turned to leave he interjected. "Layla"

"Yeah"

"Tell me how she's doing when you get back?"

"Sure"

Without another word spoken, I left the house. As I was closing the door, my apartment door swung open and I found the familiar face of Ashton as he stood there. His hair was almost sticking right up, and his sleep wear was still on. He squinted while looking at me, only barely able to see with the brightness of the outdoors. "Oh good! You haven't left yet. What were you doing at Luke's?"

I laughed, "Just checking on him"

"Oh, well I just wanted to let you know that the studio called again. If we want to hold our spot at the studio we have to come in next week, otherwise we are gonna have to wait another month to record our last few songs."

"Oh"

"We can talk about it when you get back, I just wanted to let you know sooner rather than later. You could always come with us...."

I sighed, "I don't think I can this time Ashton. It'd be better for me to stay and get some things done with the book. I have a deadline to meet too."
