this is dedicated to my dear friends Angel and Jonni. i love them so much 🙃
a disclaimer: i put 0 effort into this so it's pretty shit. i said i would write this, not that it would be good.
Angel woke up to her brothers already running around. It's only six AM why does God hate me, she pondered drowsily as she picked out her outfit. She actually bothered to brush her hair - for once - and tugged on one of her countless cat t-shirts. A pair of jeans and tennis shoes completed the outfit. Not bad for a first day of freshman year. She walked out to the bus stop, leaving behind the chaos of her family's apartment.

Jonni's dog, Broccoli, woke her up. He was always so loud, and had a tendency to bark at anything and everything.
Jonni yawned, brushing her teeth and putting her glasses on. As she ate her bowl of cereal, her alarm went off in her bedroom, so she meandered back to it and hit the off button. She got a ride from her mother to class, signalling the fresh start she'd been looking forward to.
But both Jonni and Angel were completely unprepared for the beast that was high-school.

The two looked around for their friends, finding J and Izzie standing in the corner, waiting out the twenty minutes before class started in complete isolation, ignoring each other on their phones.
"Are you two serious?" Angel asked incredulously, "All you ever do is play on those stupid meowing phones!"
J looked up from his phone for only a minute, brunet hair fluttering in the breeze. "Excuse you, like you have any room to talk."
Angel huffed, taking out her own phone. Jonni looked over Angel's shoulder, lacking her own cell.
The bell rung after the twenty minutes had passed, leaving J and Izzie to walk in a different direction than Angel and Jonni.
"Wait! Wait, hold up," Angel said, stopping the two in their tracks, "Did you both wear trans pride flags?"
J and Izzie replied at the exact same time, almost eerily. "Yep."
They continued walking.

Jonni and Angel had a lot of classes together. Not that this was necessarily a bad thing, they were already friends, but as with anybody, Angel was afraid of growing too close to someone. To anyone. And there was something about Jonni that terrified Angel. Maybe it was the way Angel felt like she could tell Jonni anything, maybe it was the unending kindness Jonni had shown her, maybe it was the weird fluttery feeling in her chest when she looked at Jonni for too long -
Not that feeling had any significance. It was just Angel's anxiety, that's all.

After school, Angel walked back to her house, and Jonni accompanied her. They saw J walking too, although Angel was taken aback a bit when he stopped and saved a kitten from being run over. It was very dramatic and very heroic, I can reassure you.
Jonni parted ways with Angel far too soon. Angel wanted to know what was wrong with her. Why, all of a sudden, did every moment with Jonni end far too soon? Why was her body too far away? Why were her lips too kissable -
Nope. Angel wouldn't succumb to those thoughts. She'd been straight for the past fourteen years of her life, and she'd continue to be straight until the day she died.

It only took a few weeks before Angel cracked. She went over to J's house, where she found Mia hanging out too.
"Oh look, two more of your friends! What's next, you're gonna pull one out of the couch cushion?" J's younger sister, Ellie, exclaimed as she walked by.
"Actually -" Gee said, popping out from behind the couch, where they'd lost their phone. Ellie let out a loud groan, storming off to her room.
"Want some soda?" J offered, holding out a bottle of Sprite like the Saint he is.

At 2 AM, three of the party guests were sat in a circle, Gee being passed out by the guitars.
"Okay, okay, I think, I think I have a crush on Jonni," Angel said, really fast, after a brief silence.
"What the fuck?" J said, accidentally knocking over his cup of Orange Crush. Mia let out a chuckle, before stopping when she realized Angel was serious.
"Wait, really?"
"Yeah, I just... I feel all funny when I look at her? Like I wanna take her out on a date and hold her hand and sh - meow."
"That censorship is getting really annoying, also, I though you were straight?" J inquired, tilting his head like an adorable puppy.
"I thought I was too, I just - I'm really conflicted."
"Well, I mean, sexuality is a fluid thing," J shrugged, "Mia used to think she was straight, and now look at her!"
Mia looked up from her phone. "Sorry, I was just texting Bailey."
"Of course you were," J rolled his eyes, "Anyway, Angel, we gotta get you hooked up with Jonni."
"I don't wanna like, have sex with her -"
"I get it, you're ace, I meant romantically," J grinned, "Now, Mia, are we gonna go private and sweet or public and bold?"

Of course, Angel took none of her wonderful friends' advice. Instead, she just... asked Jonni. She knew that Jonni wouldn't want anything too grandiose, so she just... went up and asked.
Jonni grinned and said. "Of course!" and Angel couldn't help but smile.

The two girls went to see the movies. J demanded that he pay for it because Angel didn't take his advice (even though Angel said that she asked Jonni out just fine).
The second Fantastic Beast And Where To Find Them movie was even better when you held hands the whole time.
After that, Jonni and Angel stopped by Bread Co. Jonni looked even more beautiful, sunset leaving them in a faded halo of light.
"Can I kiss you?" Jonni asked, startling Angel out of her stupor. Angel nodded.
"Thanks, Angel-chan," Jonni smirked, kissing Angel as she let out a noise of disgust at the name.
"You meowing weeaboo," Angel grinned, kissing Jonni again.
