The New Age

Chapter Three

Renee slowly opened the door to the building and took a step in. It was dark inside, the only light was shining through the crack of the door with the remaining daylight. Renee closed the door behind her and as soon as she turned around she was face to face with the muzzle of a gun.

"Who the hell are you-?" the person asked while turning on a flashlight onto Renee. Renee looked at the face who was holding the gun and smiled. "Renee!" Claire exclaimed while lowering her gun to give Renee a hug.

"Claire, thank God!" Renee said. Claire took a step backwards and turned on an oil lamp to light the room up. Renee looked around at the place, it looked as if this is where Claire had been holed up for a while. Renee was about to say something when she heard more footsteps coming down the hall. She looked at Claire who smiled.

"Alex?" Renee asked when she saw the figure standing in the doorway. The person smiled and Renee ran up to give him a hug. "I didn't think I would find you guys." she said while stepping back to look at them both. There were tears in the corners of her eyes. "I thought I lost everyone."

"It's," Alex started to say, "It's just you?" he asked. Renee nodded and everyone could feel the happy mood disappear as it went quiet for a moment.

"Well." Claire said finally, "Now we are three!" Renee and Alex smiled, they were both glad that the others were there.

"So now what do we do?" Renee asked.

"We've been running low on supplies," Alex started saying, "This town doesn't have much. We were thinking on heading out to find somewhere new." Renee nodded,

"That sounds like a plan."

"We'll leave in the morning." Claire said, ""you probably need some rest." she said to Renee. Renee nodded and was about to ask where to sleep when something caught her eye. She walked up to the window and pulled on the curtains to look outside.

"Uh guys?"

"Yeah?" Claire and Alex asked.

"We might want to go now." Alex went up to look out the window and saw the same thing Renee did. Thirty dead ones approaching the museum. "Is there another way out?" Renee asked her friends in a panic.

"Through the back." Claire said while gathering her supplies. Alex ran back to do the same when we heard the first pound on the door. Renee looked at the door. It was made of old wood. With her heart racing she ran across the room to the desk and began dragging it across to in front of the door.

"Can you guys hurry up?" she yelled to her friends. "This isn't going to hold-" There was a loud crack. The windows. "Guys?!" Renee yelled. Alex stood up and threw his bag onto his back.

"Let's go!" he yelled just as the window smashed. Renee ran over to Claire and picked up the last of her stuff and followed Alex. They ran to the back door which Alex kicked open. The door led to a parking lot which had a couple cars in them. Alex looked at Claire who pulled out a set of keys.

"Get in!" Claire yelled to us while throwing the keys to Renee. Renee hopped into the drivers seat while Claire took shotgun and Alex went into the back. As soon as they were all in Renee hit her foot to the pedal and began to drive. The parking lot led out to the street where all the zombies were standing outside the museum. One was blocking the exit out onto the street so Renee put her foot all the way to the floor and ran right through it. The monster hit the car with a loud thud and it hit the front then went over the roof. Blood was smeared on the front of the car and Renee quickly glanced out the mirror to see it's body on the ground. She saw that it was already trying to get back up. Renee drove out of town and began to slow down when she glanced down at the dash.
