Against the old wood of the staircase footsteps are heard and Maya is heard from a distance. She shouts "Mom I'm going out for a walk!". Frantically heading to the door she's stopped by her mom in the doorway. "Oh where do you think your going this late" say Maya's mother. "I just wanted to go clear my head, you know with everything going on". Her mother knew what she's was talking about. Just in the last couple weeks Maya's parents got divorced, her best friend landed himself in jail, and her father is fighting for full custody. Her mother looks at her with a face full of disappointment and softly says "Maya, I know its hard right now but it would be better if you just talked to me instead of constantly running off". Inside Maya knew her mother was right but she also knew she wasn't going for a walk either. Her life is a book of secrets, at least that's what many people say. Except if you ever got to know her you would see she's actually quit open about everything. From this factor  you would think many people liked her, but it was the opposite. Know don't be quick to judge she's not mean or anything she just has trust issues because of a hard past but that's a story for another time. Now back to the story. She looked up at her mom with a sad face and puppy eyes hopeing her mother would give in and she was right. Fine her mom says but only for an hour or two she shouts as Maya runs out the door. "Finally" whispers Maya followed with a sigh of relief. It was nearly midnight and she knew she didn't have much time the only thought was "I have to get to Matthew on time". She ran and ran and ran until finally she reached a high cold metal fence. Her face went white all the lights of the prison were out, she hadn't gotten there on time. Standing there she knew Matthew had no way of knowing she was here or even if he did he couldn't come out.
