Hunting was the last thing on Carlisle’s mind, but Bella’s baby was due any day and the wolves were going to attack. They feared the baby was going to be a monster, or was going to hurt her. They were a determined group of people and he wasn’t going to let them kill her or Bella. He didn’t feel comfortable leaving them home alone with the baby so close to birth, but Tavia knew what she was doing. He trusted her to protect his family. He had to trust her. She was the best defense they had. She was pretty much immune to their abilities. He remembered Jane trying to use her ability to cause pain on Tavia. Tavia didn’t even blink, Jane had been so confused, and no one had been able to confront her abilities without getting hurt. Tavia just shrugged her shoulder and said that was part of being a vampire. They wondered what she meant, but never said anything. The Vulturi were just glad to have someone as powerful as her on their side. He doesn’t think that they ever realized that she was never on their side. She was just alone for the free ride, which she enjoyed.
He didn’t want to have to hunt all the time, but he knew if he didn’t he would grow weak, which meant that he had to leave the kids home alone. Now he was leaving a pregnant human home alone and he was worried. Even with Tavia there he was always going to be worried. She was going to give birth any day now and with the wolves ready to attack, things were just going to get worse. After they attacked he knew it wouldn’t be long until the Vulturi would be after them. After all that is why Tavia came to Forks, to warn him that they were after his family. His family went hunting together. Him, Alice, Jasper and Emmett, it was actually quite fun despite everything that was going on. He was not thinking quite right as they hunted though and his kids could tell.
“Carlisle” Alice spoke up softly after they finished hunting. Each had taken their turn hunting and now they were just finishing up, on their way to the house. “What is going on with you?”
“I am just worried” Carlisle looked at her with a half smile. “I’m worried about Bella, she’s going to have the baby any day now”
“Tavia’s there” Emmett spoke up. “she’ll protect her”
“I know, it’s not that” Carlisle nodded. “She’ll do anything to protect those she and I care about. She cares about Bella”
“No, she doesn’t” Jasper spoke up. “well yes, but that’s not the reason why she’s here. Not the reason why she is protecting this family.”
“Jasper?” Alice looked at him. “you can’t read her emotions”
“No, but I don’t need to” Jasper looked at the rest of his family. “She’s protecting Bella, because you asked her to, Carlisle. She is doing all of this because she’s in love with you. She never stopped loving you”
“How can you be so sure?” Emmett asked as they walked. They would run, but at the moment, they wanted to keep up their strength. Jasper looked at Emmett for a moment.
“Because of the looks they give each other. Well, her more then him.” Jasper spoke softly watching in front of him as he walked. “She watches you Carlisle, like she’s afraid if she took her eyes off you, you’re going to disappear. She’s afraid; it’s not hard to see. She lost you once, she doesn’t want to loose you a second time. Don’t let her feel this way for long. As long as feels this way, as half human, she maybe have trouble being a vampire, her emotions seem to control her”
