Early in the morning, a young hummingbird buzzes towards some nectar in Bloomsdale, Missouri. Meanwhile, 4,424 miles away, in Paris, France, Didier Baucher enjoys a medium heated cup of coffee with 2 sugars, a hint of honey and mixed with precisely 43 quick stirs of a silver spoon. While this takes place, 3,724.33 miles away, in Uganda, Adroa is murdered for trying to get a loaf of bread to feed to his beloved, Abbo. And finally, 4,359 miles apart, in Omsk, Russia, Achinoam Goldstein's eggplant stand is destroyed by a group of Neo-Nazis for not being from the country. At the top of it all, sits Jannet, waiting, silent to the worlds many moments of bliss and cries of wail and sorrow.
Jannet wakes up early as usual, turns on the sun, decides to paint a few clouds, but not too much to hide the sun, and finally tells roosters all around the world to wake up. For breakfast, Jannet picks a few red dwarves, mixes them in a bowl made from an old moon and makes a little water to wash it all down. When she's done, Jannet redirects her view on the world below, so much peace and calm this morning, it's almost a miracle. She stays patient to the peoples pleads, a divorce here, a resurrection there. All selfish pleads that go on a daily basis, but not today. No, today Jannet hears a strange plead. Father McEnzy asks "God" to please come down to him, for he has dire news that need his immediate attention. Jannet, sick of being called God, puts on her usual disguise and goes down to attend the priest. At her arrival, she utters no word; just her presence is enough to strike the priest. He kneels and speaks:
"God, I have been your loyal servant for more than 34 years. I've sacrificed my chance for a family, millions of worldly sins of the flesh, even condemned those who most deserve it. Yet I kneel before you for I have news that might shock even you. With all the suffering I this world, many have turned to the pagan ways of science, some to other religions and a great number have even discarded every religion just because they think it's non-human. Lord, I have called upon you so that you might set the world back in order, give men who do not follow your ways the punishment they deserve, and reward those who have been most loyal to you all this time."
Jannet looked down on this man, this deluded man and decided to change him, so she spoke, "Come, Father." She took him to her view of the world and explained:
-"Look down, what do you see?"
-"I see the different countries, I see the lands and oceans, I can even see places where you should strike first."- responded the priest.
-"McEnzy, when I look down, all I see is land, plentiful land. I don't see wars, I don't see racism, I don't even see evil, but why? Because this planet was born to house the many species of the world and so that they could learn to coexist with each other. Borders and segregation exist only because humans created it, wars exist because of the human incapability to share his lands. I hear your pleads every day and have done it since the beginning of this world, begging for peace and health without even noticing that this exist thanks to themselves. I brought you here to give you a gift. From now on, yours is the responsibility to make each day happen, to take care of the people, for I have reached my limit, I will be one with the universe and leave this mere plain behind me."
And just like that, she disappeared. Staying true to his word, McEnzy woke up every day to give the world colors, while slowly working on his great masterpiece, but that's a story for a next time.
