Chapter One
"Brianna get your head out of that book," Ebony said in a reproachful tone, Brianna looked up and saw her best friend Ebony wearing her green/brown dress with her green cloak, holding her bow in her hand, with a quiver of arrows of her back, and wearing her hair loose. (Brianna thought for the hundredth time how she would look if she had Ebony’s dark brown hair,)
"I thought we might go for a walk through Wavering Woods" Ebony said with her green eyes filled with excitement,
"But then why do we need the bow and quiver?" Brianna asked trying to think of an excuse not to go. Ebony of course knew this,
"well we can either go for a glorious walk, or stay here while you read that book you have already read a hundred times, while I just sit here wondering what would have happened if we had gone on the walk!" Ebony said this to make Brianna feel guilty; because it was true that Brianna probably had read the book a hundred times,
"And" Ebony continued
"it will be my last walk with you while I’m still fifteen,"
Oh no, Brianna thought I’ve forgotten again, it was true Brianna did forget Ebony’s birthday last year, but it would make you feel rather guilty if your best friend didn’t forget any birthdays or any special day of important for that matter, and didn’t she promise herself she wouldn’t forget Ebony’s birthday again!
"I forgot, so sorry" Brianna said sincerely, 'I don’t even have a gift for her, I could get one of the servants to get something, what did I get her last year, hmm oh I got her a book last year didn’t I well there goes that idea.'
"Don’t worry" Ebony said, "but I would like it if you would go for a walk with me?!"
"Oh of course I will just get my cloak, but you still haven’t answered why you’re bringing your bow!" Brianna said still trying to think of something to give Ebony as a present.
"I thought I might practice a bit" Ebony said mysteriously,
"I thought you were already the best shot in the castle" Brianna said as they walked to the stables,
"it doesn’t hurt to practice, well unless you poke your eye out, but you get my meaning" Ebony said,
"I’ll need to borrow a horse again, Mr. George needed Joe today," she added (Mr. George was an elderly man who had looked after Ebony since she was a baby,)
"Of course take your pick," Brianna said, then she smiled now I know what to get Ebony for her birthday, she thought, she had seen a young stallion for sale just yesterday, they had now chosen two horses and saddled them, (something that Brianna would never have done just two years ago,) and went off to Wavering Woods.
Brianna and Ebony arrived at Wavering Woods.
"Ebony! Why do you want to practice your archery here? We have a practice grounds at the castle you know," Brianna said without much hope, Brianna like most people in Cambroad, she did not like the woods; it always gave you a funny feeling. But it seemed to Brianna to have the opposite effect on Ebony, when you saw her looking at it her green eyes seemed to be full of excitement at it wonder.
"Oh I know but why would I want to go to the practice court, when I can come here instead?" she said already knowing what Brianna was going to say. "Coz it’s less scary, and we won’t get eating by wolves?"
"Oh come now, the wolves won’t eat you well not until your dead first," "oh thanks that makes me feel oh so much better." Brianna said sarcastically, Ebony smiled at the sarcasm "glad to help, but don't worry it won't happen," Brianna gave up with a huff; it wasn’t worth it to argue.
