At first I thought that I was alone. The room was so dark that it was hard to tell if anyone at all may be occupying the cramped space with me. Then came the pain. It didn't occur to me at the time, has only now dawned on me as I sit to tell this story, how he moved so soundlessly. Like a snake. Seems pretty accurate to me. But I digress, suddenly I was shaken by a  white hot pain that had me reeling. Instantly I felt a warmth spreading down my right leg. I slumped to the floor. I had no idea how long I had been in this room, I had lost any track of time what seemed like weeks ago. I think I passed out then..at  the very least I don't remember anything after that white hot wave.

When I opened my eyes it took several minutes to focus. My cheek was cold against the stone floor. Somewhere outside the room a dim light shone from underneath the door. For several minutes I lay motionless..feeling the throb from above my right hip. I had lost a fair amount of blood, this I could tell by not only the swimming of my mind, but the sticky pool that had collected under me. Off to my left I caught a glint out of the corner of my eye. I strained to focus on what was reflecting the light. When I finally made out the object my breath caught in my throat. I'd know that ring anywhere. For the last three weeks she'd flashed it in my face, beaming. My eyes trailed the lines of her hand, the pale blue tint of her skin in bold contrast to the dark red staining her nails. I vomited then. Overwhelmed with grief and realization. I wanted to turn over, tear my eyes from what I was seeing. I lost conciousness instead.
