LEGOLAS' POV

(Flashback)

I sat down, unsure. Why had my father brought me to Rivendell? All I could see was a circle of different races: elves, dwarves, humans, even a hobbit! I shifted uncomfortably on the hard, wooden seat. And then I froze.

I was being watched.

A man, clothed in black, with shoulder-length, brown, tousled hair, stared intently at me with his dirty but piercing blue eyes. Suddenly, I caught his gaze and we both looked away awkwardly. Who was he? He seemed familiar; although I could not remember ever seeing him before. I am sure I would recognise someone of his appearance.

The silence was broken abruptly by Lord Elrond, calling the meeting to order. But I could not focus on his words. All I could think about was him. And I never even found out his name.

~1 year later~

"Legolas!" my father shouted impatiently. "Come down at once!" I sighed, knowing I could not defy him. Hastily, I pulled on a leather tunic and a pair of forest green trousers. I still couldn't stop thinking about him. The man at the meeting. What emotion did I feel? It confused me. I had never felt like this before.

Grudgingly I made my way down to the throne room in Mirkwood. My father's throne room. As expected, my father was sat on his elven throne drumming his fingers, irate.

"There you are!" he cried, exasperated. "I have just had a messenger deliver a very important message to me. You are to travel to Rivendell instantly." I was speechless.

"What? Why?" My father rolled his eyes. "You are to find an elf maiden to marry. Since you have shown no interest in anyone here in Mirkwood, I decided you must visit Rivendell to find someone. You are nearly 2000 years old Legolas, you need to settle down. And I need an heir." he replied.

I cursed silently. No way was I going to Rivendell to find A WIFE! Like he had read my mind, my father said: "Legolas, you must go. Do not disobey me."

I knew I had to. Like he said, I could not disobey him. I created my emotionless mask upon my face and nodded curtly. Then I took my leave to go and pack.

Only as I was mounting up Arod and riding out of the Mirkwood stables did it hit me; that was where the man in black with his piercing eyes was. Rivendell. A mixture of excitement, fear and nervousness shot through me. I don't know why, he probably didn't even remember me! I sighed. Why had this stranger been praying on my mind for the past year?

~time skip 3 weeks~

Finally! I dismounted Arod for the last time on our journey. It took 3 weeks to get here! I stood politely at Rivendell's border, waiting for someone to come and greet me.

After waiting for a few minutes I spotted two heads in the distance. A woman with long black hair and... oh no. It was him. They walked hand in hand which, for some reason, made me jealous. What are you thinking Legolas? You do not even know his name!  I scolded myself.

By that time, the two had reached me. The woman was stunningly beautiful, although I felt no attraction whatsoever. She was definitely an elf, clothed in a blue dress with long white sleeves. A dainty silver band of leaves graced her head, her hair falling down in soft waves.

The man was exactly the same as how I had remembered him. I could still see the image of him in my mind, fresh as snow, even though it was a year ago. He seemed contented holding on to the maiden's hand, which for some reason made my heart drop. What is wrong with you Legolas?

I was completely lost in thought when the lady spoke. She talked softly, gently. "Vedui' (greetings), Legolas Greenleaf, son of Thranduil and Prince of the Woodland Realm. I am Arwen Evenstar, daughter of Elrond."

I snapped out of my trance just in time to be able to bow politely without them thinking I was strange.

ARAGORN'S POV

I couldn't believe it. The elf that visited my dreams almost every night since that day last year.  Before I looked awkward I stepped forward and bowed graciously. "I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn and foster son of Elrond of Rivendell. By others I might be known as Strider or Estel."

He smiled slightly and for some reason that made my insides go all funny. For Merlin's sake, Aragorn! You are in love with Arwen and you are not gay!

Elrond had told us about his appearance but I had thought nothing of it. At that point, the name Legolas meant little more to me than that he was Thranduil's son. But I never knew that it was the elf that made me smile in my sleep. Many times Arwen had seen and I would have to lie. I felt awful about it, but I knew she would enquire further and that made me uncomfortable for some reason.

What was happening to me? The blonde elf captivated me and I felt myself drawn in subconsciously by his piercing blue eyes and long hair with its three braids. I hadn't stopped thinking about him since the council last year. I was so entranced that I completely zoned out until I was shaken back to reality by Arwen.

"My father told us that you would be coming. Was the journey fine?" she asked, smiling. "It was quite enjoyable really. I was anxious to get here as soon as I could." Legolas replied.

His voice sounded like birdsong to my ears. But a question haunted my mind that I felt I had to ask.

"Why were you sent here? I expected your father to be with you at least..." I asked awkwardly.

His face slowly became a light shade of pink. "I... umm..." he stuttered nervously. I wondered what had made him so nervous? He didn't seem like a shy elf. "You don't need to tell me if you don't want to...!" I rebounded, worried.

"No... it's ok..." He took a deep breath. "My father wants me to find a woman. He 'observed' that I did not show interest in anyone in Mirkwood." I was shocked. I could tell that he was really against the idea.

Arwen coughed lightly. She tightened her grip on my hand, almost protectively, and said; "Come, Legolas, we will show you to your room."
