(Firstly I feel I should mention this will be done journal style instead of chapter style. Also, I should mention that this is a story I wrote myself and created most of the characters for. A special thanks to Logan Kilgus and Jennifer Johnson for helping with the characters)

I feel a little odd sitting here and writing but I feel I should keep a count of all that's happened to me. Not sure why though. Maybe so I have no need to worry about my child making the same mistake? or maybe it's just the loneliness? whatever it may be I'm writing this to tell my story. I think ill start by telling what's happened to this point.

first, i should introduce myself. my name is Maxwell Flowright, son of William Flowright and Martha Panwell. My father was a pirate, legend to most and friend to all. He's the one who taught me only to steal from those with plenty. Though I'm well aware that this isn't normal for a pirate. But you see if my father had had a choice he wouldn't have been one. But being a Kappa we must be on or near water at all times. this makes it hard for us to find normal lives. yes, there are places we can fish and what not but fishing is difficult for Kappa. you see when we get wet we turn into fish like people so we have to do things that rarely if ever involve us getting wet. and this was the best choice for my father.

part of me wishes he'd never told my mom about us being Kappa but I guess he'd have had to. you see Kapas don't have babies the same way most do. We don't come out of our mothers like you. we come from the water itself. born from the love between two people. So it was either lie and say he couldn't have kids at all or tell mom the truth when I washed up on land. I know my father to be an honest man so I can't blame him for his choice but I really wish he'd have thought in through more. Because of his choice to tell mom the truth I was abused by her and believed him to be dead because she wouldn't allow him to come home ever.

For sixteen years I took the beating, not like I had much a choice, but on my sixteenth birthday my powers came in and I was completely unaware about what I am. She went into one of her rages fits when I came home and she beat me until I blacked out. When I came to she was dead. My best guess at what happened is that my powers took over to protect me.

I ran from the house. Blood and tears mixing on the road as I did. I ran as far as I could before blood loss got the better of me and I collapsed in an alley. When I woke I was laying on a bed. the cuts along my back and arms had been bandaged. I blushed faintly realizing I was shirtless then sat up and looked around. Not far from me sat a boy close to my age. He had messy red hair and the brightest green eyes I'd ever seen. We talked all that night about what had happened and how he'd rescued me. I stayed there for a few days before my father came to get me. That's how I came to be on this ship.

Well, that's father calling now. Best be going for the time being. I'll write more the next chance I get or well more like when next I feel like it.

(I usually will have more to each chapter but as this is the first one I was just setting up the basics of the story. There will likely be other shorter chapters as well but I will do my best to make sure that the chapters are no shorter than 500 words. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, please let me know what you think down below and I'll try to get the next one out to you soon)
