Iwaizumi couldn't believe it. The words that came out of Oikawa's mouth shocked him, as it was a confession from his childhood friend he'd known for so long. It was spring, and the cherry blossoms were in bloom, making it a perfect setting for Oikawa's confession to him. It was silent for a few seconds, as you could only hear the rustling of the trees in the distance. Oikawa's face was flushed red, having to muster up his confidence to say those words: I love you.
On the other hand, Iwaizumi stood there in silence, taking in the words Oikawa said. He also liked him, from when they first met. Oikawa had saved child Iwaizumi from bullies harassing him. Since then, he always looked up to Oikawa and followed him everywhere. He didn't approve of the girls being attracted to him in high school, so he was always close to him, keeping an eye on him.
When they started volleyball in junior high, it was Oikawa first to join and then asked Iwaizumi to accompany him. At first, Iwaizumi was reluctant, since he didn't know anything about the sport. Somehow Oikawa convinced Iwaizumi to start playing volleyball, and it became a big factor in their lives.
Iwaizumi was really happy, because he thought his slowly blooming love wouldn't be returned since most people would find it strange to fall in love with the same gender. All the feelings he held back, got released in one whole wave. Suddenly, his vision became blurry and tears were dripping from his face. Oikawa looked confused for a second, then suddenly panicked, not knowing if he did anything wrong.
"I-Iwa-chan! Are you ok? Did I say something wrong? I'm sorry!" Oikawa apologized quickly, words running out of his mouth.
"Th-that's not it... Actually, I'm really happy Oikawa," Iwaizumi looked up and his friend and smiled, wiping the tears from his face.
"I've been waiting for this moment for a long time, dumbass." Oikawa's face relaxed, and then he embraced him, arms tightening around him. Iwaizumi did the same, his face dug into Oikawa's shoulder, the fresh, minty smell that he was so familiar with was so close to him. After a few seconds, Oikawa broke the silence and whispered in Iwaizumi's ear hoarsely,
"I'm glad... That you didn't reject me Iwa-chan...". Oikawa's arms around him tightened, his eyes tearing up a bit. It's been months since Oikawa had planned to confess to Iwaizumi, but the fear of his friend rejecting him and breaking their relationship held him back.
"Why would I ever reject you, you piece of shit?" Iwaizumi sobbed out into Oikawa's uniform, his grip tightening.
"I... Love you Tooru." Iwaizumi said quietly. Oikawa paused as his heart skipped a beat. Tooru. It's been a very long time since Iwaizumi called him that, and it was music to his ears. Seconds later they separated, grinning at each other.
"We're going out now huh? Hajime-kun." It was now Iwaizumis turn to get flustered, it was like Oikawa's lips were made perfectly for that name.
