I saw my old friend, Josephine (Jo for short) that I used to go to church with. We hadn't hung out in a good while and i didn't really know her well anymore. But the anticipation for Camp came over me and I threw my car door open, yelled goodbye to my mom and made my way to the door. At this point the realization washed over me that Jo may not realize me and this was maybe going to be super awkward. But my mom had already driven off so I couldn't go back at this point. It was 10:59 when I opened the door and took in the sight of this building. Or warehouse. It was very narrow but made up for it with its length. Right when you walked in there were tables set up in a horseshoe shape with the open side facing you, almost like it was subliminally welcoming you in. I quickly found Jo, (her striking red hair made her hard to miss) sitting at the left-most table and made plans to sit by her and start off a conversation, but I chickened out last second and sat on the other side of the horseshoe. I looked around the room for any other people I knew and only came across two more, Tracy and Selena. I also knew both of them from church.
I bet you realized that I know lots of people from church so let me explain something. I was raised in a Christian home. I went to church every Sunday and I even went to a private Christian school. Now don't get me wrong, it's not like I was one of those families where the girls all had to where long skirts and I had nightly devotions (although I did have many friends who did) but there was still an unspoken strictness.
A few minutes later I checked my phone and it was 11:04 and we still hadn't started so I got up the courage to make a small waving gesture to Jo, Tracy, and Selena. Luckily they all recognized me and said hello, and began introducing me to there friends.
See, the town that the Theatre Camp was in was 15 minutes from where I went to school. So while everyone socialized and said what they had been doing for the beginning of their summer break, I had to meet new people because I was the only one who didn't go to school with them.
Soon first day of the 2 weeks camp was done and over with and I headed home. I felt happy meeting so many new people and being able to expand on my knowledge and experience of my favorite thing. Little did I know that a storm was headed my way.
