Chestnut's wings made a slight buzzing noise as he flew through the ether. The red sand blew below him, creating tornadoes made of the little red specks. Chestnut dodged out of the way of one. Usually it wasn't this windy.

He turned to the right, and redirected his course. He didn't need to guess where to go; he could feel the pull of the center of the ether.

Chestnut could feel the presence of his summoner in his mind, telling him where to go, and what needed to be done. It was like another being living and breathing in your mind.

Sometimes his summoner, Rory, would send him into the ether to show some of the classes he taught, but this time was different; Rory wanted a new demon.

The closer chestnut got to the center of the ether, the more dangerous it was. He was a mite; the weakest demon there was. The closer to the center he got, the stronger the demons got. As the ground raced by below him, he knew he was heading straight into danger. If any demon decided to attack him, they could easily take him down.

Chestnut beat his wings faster as he feels the annoyance and impatience of Rory. Sadly, that was a feeling he was used to.

Chestnut swerved out of the way as he sees a larger demon than him flying in the air. He knew he was lucky that he avoided it, and it didn't come back after him. He looked back to see what it was. A shrike. He was definitely lucky to be alive.

He felt the relief that Rory felt. At least Rory cared that he was alive.

With a new determination to finish the task, and get back to his master quickly, Chestnut flapped his wings even faster. The world around him blurred as he sped through the spy like a bullet. The feeling of the wind against his body made him feel free, and alive. Chestnut chirred with delight.

Eventually, though, he had to slow himself down. There was, of course a task at hand: he had to catch a demon.

As he slowed, the world came into focus around him. The sand still brewed beneath him, but the rest of the landscape was completely different. Short, bare treest grew out of the sand. Scattered throughout the landscape were dense shrubs that would provide a leafy habitat to any powerful demon that was waiting for it's next meal, or just needed a place to hide.

Chestnut knew he needed to descend now, but the descent was still reluctant. As he flew lower over the ground, it was easier to see any demon trying to hide, but it would also be easier for any demon to catch him.

He could tell Rory had seen a demon he wanted as he directed Chestnut towards one particular bush.

Through the leaves Chestnut could see the demon that Rory had in mind. A vulpid. It's chest heaved up and down as it slept. It's three tails moved slightly in the sand. Chestnut landed close to the bush as silently as possible. Vulpids were very agile, and very quick. Chestnut only had one chance.

Chestnut crept closer towards the bush on Rory's command, and when he was close enough, a feeling washed through him.

It was time to catch a demon.

A/N: Hello readers! So this is the first chapter of a short Summoner fan fiction I wrote! I hope you enjoyed it! I know that in Summoner, demons have never really had that many feelings, so I experimented with feelings that a human may feel, and I experimented with how it would feel to recieve the commands! I hope you enjoyed!
