Chapter 8: Affair

I get to see her this weekend, and I've decided to take Nathan with me so he can meet her in person. He's only seen a few pictures of her that I've shown him. It's been a few weeks since I've seen her, and I'm anxious about this because it's the longest I have ever been away from her.

I pack up my suitcase for four days, but Nathan only packs for two days since he has to record with the band. We leave late Friday night, and he drives just over an hour to Dylan's house in Cambridge. I fall asleep on the way there against Nathan's shoulder. I've missed her.

Finally, we get to the house; I grab my suitcase, then Nathan does the same and follows me to the front door. We don't even knock because Dylan opens the door once we get out of the car. He embraces me in a bear hug and kisses my cheek. I know Nathan is trying his best not to knock Dylan out.

"Lucy, it's good to see you again." He lets go of me and steps back, looking at Nathan. "So is this him?"

"Yeah. Dylan, this is Nathan. Nathan. Dylan."

"She's told me about you." Dylan glares at him, then takes a step closer to me.

"She has, has she?" Nathan grabs my hand and pulls me closer to him. "Then you should know I've changed since and that she is pregnant with my child."

"You better not kill this one like you did the other one."

"Okay, okay. Stop this." I stand between them and put a hand on either of their chests. "Dylan, he didn't kill the baby. And, Nathan, please. You know you didn't kill the baby."

I see Dylan turn his back and then walk into the house. I follow behind him then Nathan follows inside behind me. "So where is she?"

"In her room, playing with her toys." He leads me over to her room; then, once I see her, she hugs me tight.

"Mama!"

This guy is a complete jackass. Why did they ever have a child together? And why would she even still talk to him?

"Mama!"

I follow right behind Lucy to see her daughter's room. I look around, then see her jump up from playing with her toys and hug Lucy. She looks so cute, just like Lucy. I still don't understand why she's never told me about her.

The little girl's voice sounds different as if she has some disability. Lucy sits down in front of her and signs to her. Wait. Is the little girl deaf? Can she not hear? Maybe that's why her voice sounds weird.

"Nathan, come here. Sit." Lucy looks behind her at me, then pats the spot next to her on the floor. I sit next to her and look at the girl. "Nathan, this is Ava." She signs to Ava my name.

I wave at her and smile a little bit. I know sign language too, so I start signing to Ava. A big smile comes across Lucy's face and Ava's also. "I didn't know you knew sign language, and you never told me that." She nudges me playfully and hugs my arm.

"Sorry. We all have secrets, don't we?"

"Yeah. I guess we do."

The next day I leave early to meet the guys over at the studio to record songs for the new album we're releasing later this year.

After Nathan leaves, Dylan, Ava, and I cuddle on the couch together to watch all the Shrek movies because they are Ava's favorites. Ava moves to the floor about halfway through the second movie. I feel Dylan move closer. At first, I don't do anything about it, but soon I feel his lips against my neck. I move away, but he pulls me onto his lap. "Dylan, no. I-I'm engaged, and I c-can't."

"Lulu, come on. Ava, can't hear us, and besides, your boyfriend isn't here..." He turns my head to face his then he smashes his lips into mine. I don't pull away and don't want to, but I can't hurt Nathan like this.I'm cheating on Nathan. If he ever finds out about what Dylan and I did, he'll get outraged and break off the engagement. Ava puts in the next movie and sets it up with subtitles. Then she sits back on the floor and watches it. We don't notice what she's doing because we're caught up in getting to second base. "We can't do this. I'm engaged. And remember, this is how Ava was made. I'm sorry we can't do this."
