The black wolf pup scrambled after the bigger two pups, his own big paws tripping him up. "Give it back!" He squeaked.
"Come get it, Huttser." The female challenged, laying the dead finch between her paws. "Don't trip." The male pup mocked. Huttser looked down, blinking. Thunder and Dust were always so mean to him. A shuffle was heard and he looked back up, seeing Dust mangling the bird with her teeth.
"Get it now." She laughed, tossing it to him. He looked down at the lanky thing. A sigh escaped his maw as he turned tail and walked back to his mother and father's den. "Hello Mother." He muttered, thumping down on the dirt floor.
"Huttser, is something wrong?" Asked his mother, her dark red coat glowing in the gloom. "It's just Dust and Thunder. They took my bird and messed it up." A glower hit his mother's face, making her look pretty intimidating.
He heard pawsteps behind him and turned to see his father, the bold figure in the entrance. His coat shone a dark grey as he padded in, the leg of a deer in his jaws.
"Timber, Dust and Thunder have been messing with Huttser again." His mother growled. Timber growled. "Typical. Huttser, why don't you show your teeth to them? Scare them." He said to his small son. "I-I... Dad I don't want to. They're bigger than me." He whispered, scuffing the ground with his paw.
Timber snorted. "Fine. Maple, go teach them a lesson." He said to his mate. She nodded and stood up with a grunt, leaving the den.
"Huttser, you have to learn to defend yourself if you are ever to be an Alpha." Timber growled, peering down at his son.
Huttser shrank away from his father's intense yellow stare. "Dad, I'm only a couple months old." He said quietly. "I wrestled with other pups at your age." Timber pressed.
"I'm sorry, father, but I'm not you." Huttser raised his voice a bit. Timber stared at him for a moment, then turned away.
"Perhaps you should just be a healer, then." He suggested. Huttser frowned. He didn't want to be a healer. He wanted to be an adventurer, traveling the forests. "No, dad." He whispered quickly. A couple yelps were heard outside, and his mother came back in, settling down.
"I showed them not to take my son's bird." She said gruffly.
Night fell, and Huttser was laying in the middle of camp, gazing at the stars. He always loved hearing the stories of Tor and Fenris, the two wolf gods.
Tor was the moon, her light shining bright over the land. Fenris was the sun, his blazing heat warming the wolves' pelts.
Huttser soon felt his eyes close, a wall of sleep crashing over him.
Bright sunlight hit Huttser in the eyes, waking him up. The pack seemed to be awake, a couple wolves roaming around and organizing duties. It looked like the Dawn hunting group came back.
"Hiya, Huttser." A high pitched voice said. He turned to see Fern, a friend of his. She was a white pup with a piercing green gaze. She smiled at him and he nuzzled her. "Sleep well?" Asked Huttser. She nodded. "Why did you sleep out here?" She asked, tilting her head. "The stars interest me." He stated. She nodded, grinning. "I'm going to play with my sister. Bye!" She scrambled away in the direction of her den.
A pang of pain hit Huttser. He didn't have any siblings. The Healers suggested that his brothers and sisters died in the womb. He was an only pup, and it killed him inside. He wanted siblings to play with, hunt with, live with. But he was stuck by himself.
Well. It could be worse.
He could be Dust's brother.
