September 19th, I wake to the sound of my deafening alarm. Danny's side of the bed is empty, again. He's been away on tour in Ireland and the Uk for about 2 weeks now and I really miss him. He's supposed to arrive home soon, a few days before his birthday actually so I want to do something special. I turn on my laptop and book 2 business class tickets Amsterdam departing on the day of his birthday because I know he'll just love the idea of dining on the canals by night & smoking pot in the weed cafes by day.

It's the morning of Danny's arrival and I've to pick him up in 2 hours which leaves me time to run to the store and get him yellow Dutch tulips & waffle ingredients. I drive to the airport and wait for him in arrivals with one arm behind my back hiding the tulips. He strolls out from the double doors looking exhausted, dragging a heavy suitcase & a backpack swung over his shoulder. He spots me and his face lights up as he hastily makes his way over to me.

"hey you" he says in his adorable morning voice as he drops his bags at his feet, wraps his arms around my neck & crashes his lips to mine. God I missed him. I embrace his waist with one arm which catches his attention as he pulls back smirking.

"What's behind your back?" He asks inquisitively trying to peek behind. I reveal the bunch of flowers.

"Flowers?" He says in awe pouting taking them & briefly smells them.

"They're not just any flowers, they're tulips, which are the the national flower of the Netherlands" I say hinting as he raises an eyebrow.

We get home and Danny starts unpacking in our room as I start making waffles in the waffle iron. As soon as they're done, I plate them and pour Hershey's chocolate sauce on top with some chopped strawberries.

"Coffee?" I shout across the hall

"Yeah man" he replies.

Covered in flour I leave the plates on the table as Danny ponders in putting the tulips in a vase.

"Wh.. what" he giggles facepalming noticing the waffles & my flour covered face.

"Ta dah" I gesture towards the waffles as he laughs and dusts the flour off the tip of my nose.

"What's all this? First the flowers now the waffles?" He asks baffled

"I'm getting to it , I'm getting to it" I reassure him winking "did you know that waffles originated in the Netherlands?"

"No but I do now" he says scanning the table as we both sit down and start eating.

"I'm impressed, you can't cook for shit and these are amazing" he admits indulging into the fluffy waffles.

"call me Gordon Ramsay" I say shooting him a smug grin.

"okay so, you're probably dying to know what all this is about so here" I hand him an envelope.

"NO WAY, GET OUT OF HERE, AMSTERDAM?!" He jumps out of his seat and bends down, pressing his lips to mine, gripping me by the collar as it intensified.

"Happy early birthday"
