Did I do the right thing?
I was going to the park to play soccer and I saw this kid practicing on the turf field by himself. He was trying to kick the ball straight into the goal but he couldn't bring himself to do it! He was cursing everytime he missed the ball and I felt so bad! Meanwhile I was practicing to and I kept watching him to see how he was doing (I'm not a stalker). As I went to go teach him how to correctly kick the ball, he runs away, seeing that there were five very obnoxious kids about his age walking towards the turf. I grabbed my ball and went around through the fence to find the boy. He was hiding behind a building looking at the boys on the turf field. As I walked over to where he was, he turned and saw me and walked to one of the abandoned tables.I went up to him and asked him if he was alright.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What are you asking me because......." he stopped.
"Are those kids bullying you?".
"Yeah, well..., yeah they are!".
"You need to tell someone about it".
"Ok I will" he said as he nodded his head.
"Listen, I'm a senior and I know a lot about bullying. I was bullied when I was younger but I won't take what anybody says to me".
"It's not right for those kids to bully you like this. Being bullied can put a person in a very dark place and it can make you feel sad and angry. Do you feel sad and angry sometimes?".
"Yeah, I do. They always make fun of me!".
I was about ready to go over there to the turf and beat all of them up, but I held it in!
What he said next was very heartbreaking though.
"All I wanted was to be their friend".
That really got to my head a little bit. He was a innocent child that was in the fourth grade and got straight A's. He even said that he wanted to follow after in his brothers footsteps. This boy truly, truly loved school like no other kid did. This kid had capabilities that those kids would never have.
I asked him if his brother would care if he got bullied, he said that he probably wouldn't.
This boy talked me like I was the first person who ever understood him. I truly in that moment I wanted to be his friend forever.
He probably had in school friends but never had outside of school friends.
This event today really helped me understand that life isn't always roses and daisies. It helped me see that I wasn't the only one that had problems.
