This is weird; Chris rarely leaves his short stories at home. Well I still have a little over 4 hours ‘til I need to leave so I think I’ll have a peek of this. I rarely read his books since he says that most of them have not very happy endings. I hope this is different.
To my lovely sister, Alli Behlendorf
And to the guy I met at the coffee shop, Jake Pently.
Whoa, I never knew he dedicated books for me. Who is that Jake Pently though?
Phew, good thing our professor got lazy today. Now I have a few hours to myself before I go back to working on all these school stuff. I’m parched; I’ll just stop by the café and maybe lounge for a while.
“Umm, I’ll have a skinny peppermint mocha with a shot of espresso”
“That would be $2.99, what’s your name?”
“Dolton, D-O-L-T-O-N.”
“Okay, we’ll just call you when your drink is ready.”
“Okay.”
Ugh, why does this café have to be so popular? Now I have to share a seat with some random hipster that’s too busy thinking whether or not his outfit is already mainstream.
“Hey, mind if I sit here?”
“Not at all.”
This is the first time I shared a table here with a non-hipster, probably.
“So, hi I’m Dolton. I’m a student at Wesleyan. How ‘bout you?”
“I’m Chris; I’m a full time writer at The Huffington Post, but at times I do some freestyle writing.”
“Awesome! So, do you have any books that have been published?”
“Not at the moment, but I’m planning on publishing this book I’m writing. I’m currently half way through it.”
‘Skinny peppermint mocha for Dolton!’
“That’s me.”
That Chris guy is awesome. I wonder what he is writing is about.
“I’m bac-“
Shit, he’s talking to someone on the phone.
‘Hey, Chris I’m running late, I’ll be there in 5, and I have a surprise for you.’
“Okay, okay. I’ll be here at the café. Goodbye Lia.” Then Chris hangs up the phone
“I’m sorry if you had to hear that. My sister is such a kid even though she’s already 18.”
“So your sister’s coming here? I should go, since it’d be awkward if still stay here.”
“No it’s ok, she’s not that scary, a little jumpy, but definitely not scary.”
