Almost like an optical absurdity life flies past us, leaving some of us broken, happy, or somewhere on the in between. Our story takes place in the inbetween of Broken and happy, our story begins in the small town of Murdock Minnesota, a town that, in its past, has faced many tragedies, and miracles, but nothing could ever compare to the murders that took place over the last six winters. Everything truly began, i would say, when the local thugs the West siders went out for a drink one stormy winter night.
Their incompetent leader was drunk beyond comprehension at that point and was on the verge of passing out, when out of nowhere the door to the bar swings wide open and the cold wind came rushing in along with a young woman whom the members of the gang recalled to be the leader's wife Veronica. She was freezing cold her red hair was criticizing from her sweat and she was shaking like a chihuahua. Everyone immediately stop what they were doing and brought her into the bar and closed the door. As she was helped over to her husband, one account recalled that she was mumbling one letter "E".
She looked up and spoke harshly towards her drunk husband," You did this, you're the reason she left!" She lunged for him but the other member held her firmly back.
No one understood what she was talking about and their leader was too drunk to understand a thing that was going on. So a young waitress at the bar stepped forward and asked," Who left Veronica?"
"Emmaline."
Everyone knew exactly in that moment what was wrong. The waitress tried to comfort Veronica, but she just kept screaming,"I want my little girl back Oba! I want my little girl!" her voice got louder and louder with every word. Their leader just sat there blank faced no emotion ever creeped anywhere on his face as his wife screamed and cried at him.
Through the Screams some of the partons of the bar recall hearing three knocks on the door before their leader stood up almost like he was possessed by a witch and walked out of bar disappearing into the white blanketed streets. Not second after Oba walked out did his wife follow him.
Everyone remembers that night as the storm that took down the highschool gym, none, except the who witnessed it, know about Veronica's little scene at the bar that night. The next day reports started flooding the police phones lines, saying that their were West siders diving in circles around neighborhoods. The police responded by sending reinforced men out to deal with the situation in the worst way possible.
That day Three men of the West siders were severely injured and sent to the hospital where that came to find out was where Oba was hiding; when they saw him laying passed out in the hospital bed hooked up to every machine they could stick him to and saw he was missing chunks of his hair, and he had scratches all over his face.
Five days passed and the dreadful winter storm cleared, everyone, including the West Siders were accounted for except one woman, by the name of Veronica. For Weeks the Sheffi looked for her until he received an anonymous call saying there was a trail of blood leading into Vaults forest on the east side, right next to the Elwells Estate, not even hours after he received the tip did they find her body just where the anonymous call said, in Vault forest.
Blood coasted the snow, from a distance it resembled the beginnings of a painting still on mostly white canvas, a girl in the middle of maybe the start of blooming roses, but it wasn't a painting and that red wasn't blooming roses, it was a murder scene with puddles of blood.
The Wife and high school sweetheart of the leader of the West siders was dead.
Dead.
Gone.
Never coming back.
When Oba was released from the hospital the sheriff took him immediately into questioning which lasted for eight days. After endless questioning on his wife's murder and with no advance they released him, he returned to the bar that night and renounced himself as a West sider.
One of the older siders told," Oba walked as if he had lead in his feet, and his eyes hollowed out, he spoke like a dead man walking..."
Now you may be asking, "What does the death of a West siders wife have to do with the murders?"
On record in the police department for six years in a row on the anniversary week of Veronica's death three people would be killed, and their bodies left in the Vault. Since the last murder three years ago the crime activity seemed to have disappeared along with the West siders.
Nothings gone forever it will always come back right? Of course.
'Vaults Murder' is the file name and it's been in cold storage for three years untouched and unsolved, the file has two papers in it, one is official interrogation of Oba and the other is the autopsy report on Veronica's half frozen body which brought back no information.
Most of the towns people have forgotten about it all, and the police covered it up nicely with some fun festivals and dinners, but i haven't forgotten, and the daughter of Veronica hasn't forgotten.
Our story, or the story i'm in, started at the beginning in the summer of my junior year at Murdock high. When our local hot shot and swimming team captain Harland Blanchects and his posse were camping in the vaults, they'd been in the woods for a few days, and they'd been doing just fine, until Harland suggest they head to the other side of town and get some illegal drugs from the West Siders. No one can recall what happened after they left the camp, all we, the public, know is that early the next morning the Elwells found the dead body of Harland Blanchects in their front yard stabbed twenty two times.
Little did we know at the time that this murder would relaunch the Vaults murder investigation in full scale, and would send Murdock into a State that resembled Salum during the witch trials.
